Hey guys, how much line weight would you typically add under your float, say about 6-10' of line. I noticed at the notty today the more weight I added the farther I could cast which makes sense. Almost halfway across the river with the walis cast but I know I still need more practice.
I have about 4 hours under my belt. Oh by the way some big fish jumping out of the water today so I believe were not to late. Thanks for any advice. I'm currently using 3.o split shot if that helps any. davey

Its much easier to cast with a heavier set up i find. I switched from 12 to 8 lb mainline and noticed a huge difference. I cant cast as far and get much more line twist. Same applies for your float and shot line - the more shot and bigger the float the easier it is to cast. I find on the notty you can generally get away with a heavier set up as its often pretty deep and dirty.

I just put my float and my splitshots on my main then my swivel then about eighteen inches of lead then hook. I also put one splitshot between my hook an swivel to balance the line. The one split helps with tangles. If u are in deeper pools an u want longer just push up yur float but make sure you space yur splits evenly under the float.

What size spacing?every 6",4",8"? that would give me a rough idea on how many and amount of weight I would need.

Here you go, I hope this will help

I can't remember what size of shots but I put about eight shots, four under my float an space the other four about six inches apart. If you space them to far apart you get a bounce in the line an have lots of tangles when casting. Try that see of it helps. I finally found some thing that works for me. Hope this helps you. Let me know an if you have other questions just ask

Hello,

IMO, there is no "perfect" shot arrangement. You should learn to understand how placing shot's up and down your line will affect your *natural* presentation of bait, to the fish.. Only through Trial & Error will you be able to determine what will work best for you.
Some prefer having shots spread across there line from the float to the hook.. Some will strategically place shot groupings on the leader, just under the barreled swivel, only leaving a few shots pinched in a grouping, 4-6" below the the floats lowest fishing point. (I personally prefer the latter)

I almost always try to max out my floats holding limit.( ie: If I have a 4g float, I will try and use at least 3.5g of shot on my line.)
-Depending on weather/water conditions and use of floats, I will add shot's in various groupings.. Sometimes adding them almost 6" from my hook. (Of course to to do this, you will need to have ultra-light shots, which can get very, very small.)

Have a blast learning!
