float rod vs noodle rod

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

noodle rods are softer and cheaper than float rods. it takes longer to land fish using noodle rod, some say its harder to cast since its softer. noodle rod is very light in power and slow in action. they are rated for a maximum of 8 lb line, a lot of people use 4-6. noodle rod you'll be able to bend 180 degrees with minimal effort.

float rod normally has more power and a little faster action than a noodle. they will be rated for 6-10 or heavier line and have a more action (the further you bend the rod the more force it takes proportionally).

for more info on difference go to angling specialties or any other rod building store to try them.
or you might have to go to ff.net to look for more detailed answer, there are a lot of rod builders there who test lots of rods on daily basis.

there is no right or wrong answer, it's personal preference.
your best bet is go to the creek and when fishing gets slow ask few anglers about what they use and why, ask them to try.
a lot of guys on the river had fished different rods and they will tell you all the pros and cons

go to a fishing store

thats has a few selections

i.e salmon/trout rods have a variety of spinning-float

and noodles rods.

i heard noodle rods are ideal for using light lines, floats with single eggs.

just remember go for something light or a good balance.

arms get tired after eight hours of fishing

I found the noodle rods to be too flimsy or soft.. when floating with it i found i would miss more fish on the hook set. i love my streamside float rod its got the backbone i need to get that hook into them.

did you get it from aspec for $99? heard good things about it, but i think that rod is still considered noodle.

Yeah its a $99.99 special :S but it is a float rod its a steelhead IM8 i would suggest using it if your looking for bang for your buck.. personally im looking to upgrade to the streamside custom its only 30$ more and its got the reinforced eyelits.

thats the rod i wanted to get, but then bass pro had a good deal on a float combo.
but maybe this will be my next rod, i heard the warranty dept is on steeles and takes few days to get the replacement.

Go to Angler Outfitters its on hwy 2 outside of woodstock, he backs streamside 100% i could buy one go break it in the parking lot an get a brand new rod for the price of shipping maybe $15 at most
