Hi, I always go carp fishing with my friend every May and I always get them on the pin, using corn or worms but once I tried my fly rod and I made one 20 pounder follow it but I didnt set the hook when he bit. I was wondering which flies are the best for carp?

Try a corn fly...lol... just kidding.. I fly fish and guide for carp on some of the local rivers and ponds in my area and I found that carp will eat most of the same flies that trout will but with a slightly different presentation. Try slightly oversize nymphs, crawfish and worm patterns. Even a woolly bugger will work. A little scent can sometimes pay off as well. Good Luck.

hey, i started fly fishing for carp last spring, and found to have my best luck on small clouser minnows tied with black, grey, and or white fox strips.
Give them a try this spring, and good luck.

I find puke flies work very well, they look just like bread to them or something. Caught about 5 20lb+ in maybe an hour on those, funny thing is they hesitate with bread but when a puke fly dropped in front of them they jumped on it and took off. Carp are a TON of fun on a fly rod, will definately be doing that again this summer.

Thank you guys for the information, when May/June comes I will be trying all of these flies.

What size Puke Fly were you using? I'm assuming you mean this fly:

That's the one, I was using size 8 hooks probably. Not really sure since we lost the few we had on us, we were going for bass first so we only had 4 and 6 lb leaders on hehe. Any size should work but keep them nice and fluffy, the carp probably see it as a big juicy piece of bread or.. whatever another fish happened to puke up.

I have found that the Boobie works well for surface feeding Carp. As the cork foam keeps the fly afloat. I have had success using these colours White, Yellow, and Brown with White being the most productive. I have also found Marabu Egg pattern in White and Pink work as well.

Good to know, I really want to catch a carp on the flyrod, like you said about being a fun fight, i can't wait for that lol.

Hey guys . . im new to this forum. . . lots of good feedback. I fly fish all the time for carp and use only pheasant tail nymphs and yarn eggies. These never let me down. but certain days carp are just off. Fishing all year long for them!

Welcome to the Sight!

Lots of guys are getting into the Carp Fishing including myself.
Just love the "spooling action" they can give.

I do not Fly Fish for them, but can certainly respect the experience.
Must be a ball trying to land the monsters on a light set up.

Thanks for the tips and welcome.
