The reviews seem good but I haven't personally used it
Yeah reviews on there site seem good, but I tend not to take those to serious ( it is there site ).

I would suggest the TFO NXT outfit from BPS, started a buddy on it last year and it worked flawlessly. Rod, reel and line + carrying case, not bad if you ask me.

I cannot get the link to open - but that is not the point. I seem to recall that you bought an outfit earlier in the year and are just getting in to fly fishing.
I think it would be well worth your while to attend a few meetings of the Hamilton Area Fly Fishers and Tyers. Nothing beats direct learning from experienced fishers. Almost all members of any club are more than willing to share their opinions and get newbies started in the right direction. You could probably also get some casting tips and suggestions on appropriate flies and accessories. Here is their link.

After some fancy searching and clicking I see that it is a Redington rod. They may good products and have good customer service. I have spoken or emailed with the pres. a few times. Cabela's doesn't say anything about the reel. Most kits are OK for the first year or two (depending on amount of use) and usually the rod can still be used as a back-up or a lender. It is often the reel that needs to be upgraded first as they are typically not sturdy enough on kits (except for Scientific Anglers where the opposite is true). I say go for it - but don't allow him to buy a bigger rod than he thinks he needs. Bass can be caught on a 6wt and trout on a 4wt. Good luck.
