Fly Tying Photo Thread

I like the pattern you tied. Looking at the photo, it seems your intent is to have the fly present hook down, as you show it. But it looks like you tied the dumbbell on top of the shank. I would worry that with the dumbbell eyes tied on top of the shank, their weight may flip your fly upside down. Of course if the hook bend and point are heavy enough it may not happen. You might want to try to place the dumbells under the shank and avoid the issue. Alternately, you could position it as is and dress your fly hook up, thus making it snagless.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually wanted it to ride hook up to avoid snags. Some of the parts (tail, feelers) were tied upside down. It would help if I had a rotary vice to tie materials on the bottom, but it was tied on a set of locking pliers under a pile of books :). I'll try the next one with eyes under the shank and see which way performs better.

Here's something I tied last night. I was trying to imitate a stonefly nymph I got at Wilson's last year, but changed a couple things. It's tied in a size 6, so I plan to use it on steelhead this fall. Probably not the best tie, but I'm pretty proud of it.

Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Tail: Goose biots
Body: Brown STS Trilobal dubbing
In between the body and thorax there is another set of brown biots and some black rabbit hair I spun in a dubbing loop.
Thorax: More brown STS Trilobal
Wingcase: Pheasant tail fibers
Hackle: Black saddle hackle

I found the Trilobal quite hard to work with, but I like the wiry look it gives the fly. I found that wetting your fingers before dubbing it helps a lot. I didn't use wax of any kind with it.

And some steelhead jigs I have been working on, sizes 6 and 4, tied with 3/16th inch beadheads and crosscut rabbit fur.

Thanks Shmogley, good point on the movement, it should attract the fish in from a bit further away.

Some flies I have been working on. I can't turn my camera flash off so the pictures are pretty bad.

I have also updated my pattern above by using a grizzly soft hackle instead of black saddle hackle, and adding rubber legs behind the conehead.

Iam using 6500k OTT light ,and a 5W halogen light , Room light is 6500k too, and for video processing is adobe premiere pro video editing

Thanks tom

Well appreciate that, but not really a friend to the fly as I am dedicated to the pin.
Thanks S4S
