Hi guys and gals been awhile since I posted something here. I'll do a bit of a report today.

Was out at the forks of the credit on Sunday morning till mid afternoon to try and test my luck on uncharted river and being my first time there I found it quite peaceful.

Just south side of the Dominion bridge I started my day going down the river and never had thought that it was shallow but I did my three hour trek throwing upstreams with dries. I saw a few small rise above the water and decided on a size 14 tan caddis as a start with a prince bh on the end of the line. First cast bam a hit pulled up my rod from the excitement and it was a bit to rough and a bow started flying towards my face lol but had a fast enough reaction and hit my chest and the now was gone unhooked. Just my luck I thought.

A few minutes later I found a suitable run that lead to a nice huge stone cast my line again up stream lead it down to a drift this time a felt a small tug. Pulled my tip up gently this time and wham it took my dry and started to run and jumped out of the water to shake off but I kept my cool and a minute later I caught my very first brown for the season.

It was a 9 inch brown and I was excited and the feeling was like getting my first candy as a kid. I spent another hour or so in the same area to test my luck with another brown but did not catch anything else except for a few 3-4 inches of bows.

I left and trekked out to another area and headed my way up to hwy 24 just a few minutes where I was at. This time I waded thru an area that was open and many deep holes.

Trekked all the way down to a dam with fast waters and a few still waters. Waded down a bit and I set my self up and scared a few while wading down. I know I should've been a bit quieter but hey my first outing by myself. Didn't know better. Met 2 guys on the way down and see if they had any luck that day but all they caught was a few small 3-4 inch brooks like the one bellow.

Btw sorry for almost hooking one of them I was trying to get unstuck on a rock didn't notice that the other fellow was gone and went into my blind spot. We did had a good laugh about it though. But that it for my report hope you guys and gals enjoyed reading this piece. I'll be around the forks again next week to see if I can test my luck again.

Cheers,

Cris

@Rivermaniac That looks like a Hobbs Creek combo from basspro , is it ?

That area is pretty awesome overall. I suggest that you look-up credit valley conservation management published papers to find where the cold and mixed-cool waters are. Some of the papers are just spectacular on pinpointing on water quality, fish habitat , rehabilitation efforts and more.

@IR4J If you don't mind, I would love to get a few suggestions as well ;)

My last outing few days ago was to a cold water stream tributary around Limehouse. Area looked promising and I expect to find brookies and few browns next time I go there.

@rybak yep it is a Hobbs Creek combo. It's my first purchase looking to upgrade next season for a Spey rod but still researching what I want. I will look at the published papers sometime around thanks for the advise.

@IR4J I won't be back there till next week got my weekend jammed up for family but when your free Sundays are the days that I go.

@JuniorFloatnFly guess you've been fishing there as well

Great report, I've been there a few times this year, first time. I fished dries and caught a few little guys, second time I fished wooly buggers and hooked 2 browns and a bow all around 10" but I lost them all. LOL

I've got the same setup for my first fly rod as well. It's the only fly rod I handled and even so, from my anecdotal experience I'm very happy with it.

As far as the waters there go, I read that the area has the one of the largest Brook trout biomass in Ontario. The trick is to find them and catch 'em ;)

awesome place to fish! that section and more near there are at the top of my secret list.... lol the tougher the regulations the better quality of fish you with C&R..... and many locals there to keep an eye out for wrong doings...

@rybak yea but I should've waited and saved up for a better rod. At least for the time being I know what next weight I'm going to get.

@LogJam I know what you mean there was a few locals that I met there stating they caught a few guys trying to take home the catch lol

sadly they always miss the same damn guy i see every weekend above the cataract taking zip lock bags full of 10 inchers home. ive called the mnr on him many times but hes a sly bastard. hes always got a buddy or two with him as well so its kindof hard to confront them alone. ive said stuff but they shrug it off.
also hes using treble hooked spinners most of the time. sigh

but still its a great little area with some top notch old timers and newcomers alike. always find someone willing to chat

Last time I was there I walked up to a section of the creek, saw a case of beer on the shore (empty) and when I waded out I found a glass bottle in the rivers. After many casts under a log jam I got snagged. So I didn't want to lose my wb and I already fished it so I waded across the stream. In the middle, I looked down, and said "man that looks like a dead fish". On the way back I studied it a bit more. It was a dead baby brown, about 8" in length. Someone had deep hooked it probably using a worm and they just mangled the whole head trying to get their hook out. From the gills forward, it looked more like the back of a tube jig.

yea i saw a 20+inch brown once freshly dead on the bank... looked like someone just tore it gill out trying to get a hook out. 2 clearly marked hook holes in the gill plate told the story of a treble hook gone wrong.
made me very sad and angry at the same time. also the bottles and beer cans are a lot worse this year then any other year..
all the guys on here posting how good it is. note sure if its related but i notice way more idiots recently there then other years.

wish the mnr would beef up patrols

What I don't get is that any fish caught north of old baseline road has to be released so why use treble hooks at all. What kind of penalty is it if you get caught doing this because whoever does it simply does not care

Come on guys. We have rules about naming names about salmon and chrome pools.
Keep it quiet about speck pools as well. Are you trying to ruin some of my favorite spots?

Alfie.
