Small turnout this year, my fault. Various ‘life’ things got in the way of my (dis)organising, as a result the word didn’t get out until too late for a lot of people to include it in their plans. But despite that, there were some impressive total weights and individual fish.
Ten teams in total, three got skunked. No names mentioned, but better luck next year, eh? In fifth place, with a total weight of 9.15 pounds, were Kristy and Chris ‘Bridesmaid’ Wetzel. (hey, ask him about the nickname, don’t involve me. In fact, you never heard it from me, got it?) Fourth place jumped into the double digits; Heather Mulholland and partner Cam Neville weighed in at 13.9 pounds, with a 4.45 pounder that just got pipped for biggest fish. More about that later.
Third was taken by Eli Prestia, aided and abetted by Scott Munison, with 14.05 pounds. Ev Lafreniere and husband Mike took second, depressing the scales to a total of 14.35 pounds, including a nice 4.25 pounder.
First was perennial contestants Nicole and Craig Lanegger with an impressive 15.85 pounds, including the biggest of the day that checked in at a corpulent 4.55!
And a ‘thanks for participating’ to Brooke Saunders and Kevin Laakso, with 4.0 pounds, and Lara and Mike Buziak, with 6.3 pounds. You gals need to get your pals out for more practise, and maybe they’ll be more help next time! (ducks and scurries for cover…)
And finally, a big shoutout to RPM marine, a first-class facility. They had no problem accommodating us despite being in full swing with fueling, rentals, and maintenance. Alan keeps things running dockside, and the staff are pros. If you’re in need of anything while in the Haliburton area, keep them in mind, you won’t regret it.
Next year is scheduled for Saturday, July 11. Same place, same rules, same lousy angler running it! (Fished off the dock all day and got one miserable rock bass. Shameful.)
Mike Lafreniere and his two best
Mike and Lara Buziak
Nicole and Craig Lanegger with two from their winning haul
