Erm...well im new here im 18 and live in Etobicoke.
Anyways , im down here in Florida atm where ive totally have fallen in love with the sport.
So my current rod was a pretty stardard one, since i was nothing but a rookie 4 weeks ago, maybe more.
It was a PENN Fierce Combo(rod/reel) Spinning. i believe im using Mono, 8lbs maybe.
Reel is 4000....i think thats a pretty standard size.

Anyways id like to buy self another rod, and i mean myself because the PENN was a gift. That being said, id like a rod/reel (spinning) that is not THAT expensive, i have a budget of $100, preferably less, $90+

I'd like you guys to suggest some spinning reels and rods that both will add up to 90-100 dollars.

As of now, i ve been thinking of buying Shimano Sedonna and Sahara reels all FD4000,
and an Ugly stick rod, 7'2''.
I think its $55 or something, but non the less i could use some advice from people who have been fishing for longer than me. Comments, replies would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Uploading Pics soon of my gear, and some of my catches.

hmmmm Shimanos, sure, good price say for a Sedona or Sahara and as for rod, well, I have Bass Pro's Tourney Series 5'6" (reddish rod with reddish guide wraps) and with my old school Sedona 1000 on it it is one sweet jigging stick.... I tell you that rod impresses the heck out of me for what i do, it is a fave of my jigging combos

i think together they were about 100 bucks

Bass Pro Tourney Series also comes in other lengths of course....

I have been eyeing up the redesigned Plueger President reel series at 60 bucks each or so... good reviews, slap that puppy on a Tourney 6 footer and Bob's yer uncle eh

Well, I paid a visit to the local fishing store....and got myself a nice bait casting combo. For a great price...an orange Shimano caius and the rod is 6.10. Medium Heavy/fast tip
I bought some fluorocarbon 15lbs spool and had the guy put it on. Let me tell you this rod looks epic, feels epic.....I'm just feeling a little iffy about the setup, I mean I prefer to reel in with my left and pull with my right, but on this one it was explained to me that with bait casting its the other way around...I guess it'll take some getting used to.

I too reel in with my left hand....and I too fish with a baitcatser. They do have left had retrieve baitcatser although not as many on stock as the right handed ones. You just have to look around and ask people at the shop. They are out there!

I started using a bait caster a few months ago to target warm water species and I love it. I picked up a shimano currado 201E which is the left handed model. Didn't take any time to adjust when fighting a fish etc, it all felt "natural" I guess cause I didn't have to change which hand I reel with. Once you get used to it you'll love it.

The only issue I had was constant birdsnests when I was learning how to cast

Currado eh, go quality or go home! lol

EraJester, too bad the sales guy was either uninformed or pulled a fast one. They make baitcasters in both left and right hand retrieves.

This is by far the best casting reel right now.
I have had them all Steez, 100DC, Calais DC.Even my Calcutta TE50GT and Conquest 50

Nothing else comes close

that's a nice looking reel jc. think i'm gonna start bait casting been using spinning reel's my whole life

same here.

Out "West" the guys use Baitcasters like crazy.
Lots of "old timers" used them a lot up Northern Ontario as well (Long ago when they werent even as good)

Once you get "Used" to them, they are magic in your hands.
Similiar to a Centre Pin/Float set up or a man with his Fly gear.

The Skill & Comfort & Experience are always the most importatnt factor!

If you "lack confidence"... either gain it or DONT USE IT!
