Me and the girlfriend are going camping at a small island camping ground in Georgian bay. what i was wondering is, im only going to be fishing from shore should i stick to a minnow under a float or more with the crancks and stuff any help would be great its my first time out there so thanks.

be careful with the live bait--check the regs in the zone you are camping in.

If it were me (don't fish hardware much anymore), I would fish jigs under a float. There are a few reasons for this.
  • When casting cranks from shore there is a challenge keeping the lure from snagging on weeds, or as it dives and the lake becomes shallower closer to shore. It is hard to keep the lure in the correct zone for most of the retrieve.
  • Bait is hard to carry and keep - except for worms. Twister Tails are not hard to carry and keep.
  • With a float, you can put the bait/lure at the correct depth where it lands. A small tug on the float (or even the waves) will activate the jig.
