Am looking to buy a new spinning reel for 60-100 $. SAIL is my closest fishing store so it would be cool if it was available there. I mainly use 10 pound test flourocarbon line. Any suggestions?

Shimano Sahara and Symetre were both on sale last time I was in there within that range. With the price difference between the two I would go with the Symetre.

That is a great price range for a spinning reel that is good quality and will last for years if you treat it nicely. Try to stick more on the 100$ end, it will pay off. Stick with brands you know or that are popular. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about shimano or abu garcia. I have a cheap 20$ or so abu from CT and it's about 10 years old and runs like new. Don't be afraid to check out plufeuger or rapala either IMHO

Good choices, also throw in Shimano Sedona.

I have a Rapala Kaos and a Rapala Seeker and will not buy another Rapala reel olny because they will not sell you a spare spool and they will not sell you part's to repair it you have to ship it back to them and that's BS.

I think if I were going to buy a new reel I would get an ABU Garica they are the smoothest reeling reel I have felt and they are not over priced either.

I think Shimano ABU Garica and Quantum are the best out there,I would just find one that's from a good maker and that suite's or needs as far as how much line it holds and if the price is right buy it.

I really don't see how you can go wrong today when buy a reel from a maker that's been around for a while.

Abu Garcia Orra S reel at the price of 69.99 I think, compared to the Shimano Sahara at the price of 86.99. I would suggest the extra 15-20 buck difference and grab the Shimano Sahara 2500 series because the difference is in the quality. You will feel the difference between the 2.

Agree with alwayscatching I actually have both the orra s and sahara. In my.opinion the sahara reel is a better reel, its way smoother and casts.farther. The orra s is a decent reel as well (really good drag system on it) but like alwayscatching said I wuld suggest spending the extra money and getting the sahara

instead of limiting yourself to FW only reels.

i suggest you try finding the previous gen shimano stradic FI (FJ is newest) , its sw ready, stronger and better then the fw variants, more and better drag washers.

im sure you wont find it locally in canada, so look for them on ebay. they will run somewhere within the 100-120~ range.
theres a few of the smaller sizes on there now, like 1000 and 2500 sizes.

Haha I can't speak for Walleyeguy myself, but there's not much saltwater fishing around here lol :p so being saltwater ready isn't all that important...but in all honesty I've heard a lot of good things bout the stradic so I'm sure it's a great reel. you can't really go wrong with anything shimano.

a fw reel with a big fish, its working hard 100% capacity. same fish on a sw reel its only working 50-70% capacity, usually.
less stress on reel, more durability in the long run. better corrosion resistance parts paints and alloys, so why not consider some smaller sized sw reels.

i wouldnt use any of the fw shimano reels for salt. but would use sw reels for fw without hesitation.

I'm sure the saltwater reels are great, but I think you can get along fine with a good quality 100$ freshwater reel that will last as long as you take care of it. I think all the corrosion free parts is unnecessary in freshwater just because obviously there's not near as much corrosion. But hey it just comes down to money and how much you want to spend.

I would just avoid SW reels all together. The FW reels made are so specific to the fish we catch up here with no problems. The sahara can't go wrong unless you get a lemon....

And if you want to get a little bit better reel spend 20$ more and get the symetre...wow what a great reel. U can't go wrong with either the sahara or symetre

Anyone tried the shimano saros? Heard people were having problems with the bail hitting your fingers when spinning. Just out of curiosity because as said earlier, saltwater is hard to come by around here lol

The Saros is decent. I play with the stradic and saros everyday at work. I have not had that problem with the saros though and I have big hands. People may just have not known how to hold a reel? ahah. Ps not even a fan of the stradics.
