so saturday evening i purchased some braided line (Spider wire) from bass pro shops and when i opened the package up at the lake....and found a "wonderful" spool of mono..

Sounds like a packaging error. Spiderwire make Mono, Flouro and braid under their "EZ" brand. Is the spool marked EZ mono, or is it mono wound onto an EZ braid spool (wrong label)?

highly doubt it was packaging error. Most likely theft. Somebody swaped the spools and bought the braid at the mono price.

Yeah, this makes more sense. The stores would not do that but Basspro is a rip-off regardless. For may years, they were using the lowest CAD to USD exchange rate (do not know about now). Between Basspro, Lebaron, and Sales I have found LeBaron being the least expensive, plus they have 10% off if you are a member (2-3 times a year even more, 15-20%)

How much is the membership? I always preferred LeBaron to CT, Walmart is not even considered a place for fishing equipment in my books. So far I only see tax free sales at Sail, that alone does not make it worth while for me to drive accross the city for just a few items. This springs Bass Pro Spring sale was very dissapointing so I never went. Thanks for letting know about the membership. Any way to save money is a great tip.

Membership is $25 a year but it is easily paid off. They have 10 and sometimes 15-20% off, their prices are also almost always lower.
Sail is most expensive. Once I bought a high vis line from them, then on my way went to basspro to see it 30% lower. A few days later, I saw the same line half price at LeBaron! That was it for me to cross Sail out of my list

I was not too impressed with Sail, the setup is too boringly retail. Now that you say how expensive it is, not much point for me to go there since I'm in Scarborough.
Bass Pro I like for their displays of boats and the aquarium. But it's all marketing, walking in is like walking into a commercial, you feel you have to buy something.
I'll wait for the new year to get a membership. I already have too much stuff.......lol. But my basement flooded and all my fishing line (mono) got ruined. My rods are safe b/c the are hanging from the ceiling.
Thanks for letting us know.

But isn't fishing line designed to get wet? LOL

Anyway, last time I checked LeBaron had big spools of Suffix mono for $4 a spool. Various lb tests I think from 4 to 40... but they might be running low on common strengths like 8.

I can't compare to Le Baron's or Bass Pro, but compared to CT and Walmart, Sail was cheaper on all of the fishing items I saw.

Maybe they just had a one off item that was more expensive, from what I have seen Sail is designed to undercut their competitors a little bit on fishing gear.

Ha ha ya you're right but not with raw sewage and when you spit on the line to tie your knot............ewwwwwwwwwww.

We are sooo off topic here.......lol. Devin take it back to BP and get an exchange. Explain what happened and the should give you the right line. CT always gives me a hard time with returns so I stop buy, nothing to return then, suckers. I never had a return with BP, but I don't think it would be a big deal to them.

Good luck.

Did you check your recipt? Almost all line is scanned directly on the spool and not on the packaging to prevent that type of theft. My guess is if you check your recipt you will find that you actually paid for the Mono.
