This is kind of a noob topic but has anyone had success fishing the Grand River for steelhead? The grand is typically my "steelhead off-season" fishing destination. I fish it more often than any other river but have never tried going for steelhead; and frankly, I'm not sure where to start... When it comes to steelhead, I usually fish smaller creeks, the credit, and the whirlpool. But for some reason when it comes to the grand, I feel overwhelmed due to the size of the river. I know people fish the Caledonia dam for steelhead but I'm not interested in that. The crowds are too big and the water is too deep to wade in late fall.

Any tips on how I can locate steelhead in such a big river? Are they localized in any particular stretch of the the river or are they evenly distributed?

Thanks!

Fish at the dunnville or caledonia dam. Caledonia is still extremely shallow so its no problem wading. Or you can fish from shore. Brantford has some good spots too.

I fish the grand all the time. I caught my first steelhead a couple of weeks ago in dunnville.

I was at the Dam in Caledonia on Saturday, Seen a few caught got skunked myself. It was my first time fishing there. Was fun to watch them jump the dam and get ashed back down. A few made it up and over. If i dont go to Bronte today im going to try ha few spots here in Brantford since i live here
