are reat lakes fish healthy to eat now?a few months ago there was a report about them not being healthy to eat because of toxins in the water...are salmon and tout going to be healthy by the time they start running into the creeks? does anyone recommend taking these fish?

there is a helpful guide put out by the mnr called "guide to eating ontario sport fish" you can pick one up at a mnr office or a tourism ontario office like the one at the "atrium" at dundas and bay toronto....also see articles posted previously...see great lake fish article posted july 11 by me....also try this link http://www.environmentaldefence.ca/repo ... 0Final.pdf

if you are looking to eat the salmon....do not.....they have lots of fatty tissue that stores toxins they have taken in accumalitively from other fish they ate being that they are at the top of their food chain...also the salmon are experiencing flesh decay so that when they finnish spawning they die and their flesh is already well along in the decay process so that the salmon's off spring can eat its parent for valuable nutrients at the start of its life cycle.

agree with above posters...
i would stay away from eating highly toxic decomposing salmon from lake ontario!
