Hello, I'm a newbie and I'm looking for some really decent spots to fish. But I haven't heard of very many places to fish in the gta, while also hearing that there are lots of good places. I've gone to professor's lake and that's it. Please tell me some good spots to fish within an hour of toronto, when to fish them, and what fish to expect. And if anyone can also give some info on heart lake conservation area that'd be great. Thanks.

right about now you cant get anything in the tribs because their either still frozen or very muddy, in a week or 2 however find any creek or river and try using roe under a float for steelhead, you could always go down to niagara but be carefull the stairs are probably still slippery

I Don't fish the GTA...but there's a ton of ponds and lakes to fish. The best way to find places is to look around on Google earth and find bodies of water (storm ponds, residential ponds, conservation areas, quarries) in your area. You'll be surprised how many of these areas will hold fish.

thats correct! i have found a small storm drain near home, and caught decent size LMB, carp, sunnies, perch and a koi carp that was easily over 10 lbs, do a bit of legwork, google maps and a bit of browsing, youll be surprized on what little these bodies of water that holds decent size fish, C&R is what i only do in GTA spots,

Many of these places hold decent sized fish just based on the fact that many anglers overlook them. I've found great fishing in many of these places

It sounds like you're in the Brampton area. There's a lot of ponds in Brampton that hold big, healthy fish. Professors Lake holds 5+LB Largemouth, Pike, Crappie, Perch, Carp, Koi and Sunfish. As for Heartlake, if you don't mind paying the entry and angling fee, you'll have a blast fishing there. They stock it every year with hundreds of Trout and the Bass fishing from a boat can yield 5+LB Largemouth. You can rent row boats there.

If you know how to fish in and around a lot of weed cover, I'd also suggest that you try out Loafers Lake and Parr Lake. They both hold Bass and Pike, but make sure you're using heavy gear so you can punch through the weeds.
