People need to be educated that sitting on bottom for salmon IS NOT CATCHING FISH.

They are LINING THE FISH.

I really wonder if people are doing it on purpose knowing this, or if they are just plain ignorant.

Like the guy who was fishing the ganny on Monday, and asked us if it was a sanctuary because he didn't know and didn't look in the regs.

Meanwhile he was fishing there for the past 3 hours "not knowing" whether it was a sanctuary or not.. WTF????

Back to my original point. No matter what you use while sitting on bottom... Roe.. Styrofoam... Cigarette butts, earplugs, marshmallows, .. ANYTHING.. The fish are NOT BITING YOUR "bait". They are simply running into it.

Ive been to the trench once and it seems to me like lining off of the bottom would really be the only option. I started off casting lures but realized that there were guys across the river not too far upstream that were probably getting pissed off that I was casting my lure right infront of where they were standing. So I just followed suit and proceeded to tie an egg singer below my hook waiting for the sun to come up.

I did have a thought though. What if your bottom rig was made like this, egg sinker at bottom, 3' of line to a three way swivel where one end is attached to your mainline and the other is attached to a 18" section of flurocarbon which will make your bait sit just off of the bottom? This is the rig I use for shore fishing for silver perch and channel cats and thought it might work in this situation too.

I chuck lures in the trench all the time. Pick a spot where there aren't people sitting on bottom. (Hard to do in September with the thousands of Quebecers there.)

I destroy fish on J13's in the trench.

Putting the hook above the sinker is WORSE as you don't even need bait at that point.

Marshmallows, roe, cigarettes etc, all do that essentially, By turning ABC, A being the Rod, B being the sinker, and C being the bait, into ACB. Hooking the hook above the sinker does the same thing.

Either way the fish are being lined, as they are swimming into it. You can tell this because rods aren't just tapping, and you can't just feel a "bite". They are hauling butt up river and are running into it, and continuing to haul butt, not knowing there is a hook in their mouth, while pulling your rod off of the stand you have it set up on, making you think it "hit" the bait and swam away because it knew it was hooked.

Saw a dude t the pier with 3 rods.. 2 of them were at the bottom lining. While he was casting a spoon.. Now first off 3 lines I the water wtf? Well it washizy that day and he was casting his spoon over his line lol and kept getting tangled.

I saw a guy two rodding off the pier the other day as well. Just chilling with his two rods setup sitting out there.

I wonder if some of those guys who fish on the bottom really believe the salmon are biting their bait. Jpct is right they'll take lures in the trench. I've done it myself in an estuary that's even smaller than the trench at the Ganaraska. Just gotta put in some effort to see what they'll take.

Isn't it actually legal to use 2 lines in the lake? technically he was fishing the lake then.. lol.

That's still funny :)

well rain has slowed down. i'm checking the mouth of rouge as soon as i leave work. good luck whoever will go tonight. let's see some sal-mens.

Thow the bait isnt sitting on bottom, this clearly shows that a salmon will hit roe.

They do hit roe, but in right conditions, like whey they are running or in the lake. In river however, for may reasons including stress of spawning, getting spooky, and low/warm waters they loose that aggression.

:-D what the hell is that attached to the roe? A propeller? Not to long in the future we will need to send a robot down the water to entice the fish!! :))

that is a sweet vid but it should be pointed out that its not on a lining rig. Im sure the salmon do hit those rigs from time to time but I sure wasnt trying to kid myself when I was sitting on the grass in the trench waiting for the sun to come up lol.

Im also not saying people dont setup there lines for fish to floss themselves, cause they definatley do(bastards). Just saying fish will hit roe. Salmon are territorial while spawning, chasing other intruding salmon out of there spawning beds. Salmon will hit roe while spawning, not because they are hungry, but to crush the eggs of other salmon that happen too stray away.

ANYWHO ......

Back to the topic at hand

Big Rain...... Big Fish ........ Good Times :) lol

:) Im goin to the Credit gonna go see what they are pullin in ... :)

Toodles !!

Bronte was disappointing unless it picked up later into the night, fished through the rain in my rain gear, saw a few fish jump but no hook ups. When the sun went down the typical lucky hookup happened (everyone casting way out I assume out of pure chance someone will hook up at least once) and that was it until round 11 when I left.

<_<

Uhh... That video is irrelevant, as they are retrieving the presentation, and there is a giant spinner attractor. lol.

I'm talking about the guys who sit on bottom for an hour at a time.

Salmon dont hit roe that is sitting still. They run into it.

And yeah Bronte sucked last night,.. only 1 landed.. heh..

I haven't caught one... this entire year. Soon...

Salmon will hit chunks of skein out in the lake, but not if it's lying on the bottom. Floats are pretty much a necessity.
