is this stuff the real deal? i went up to my cottage on coe-island lake and was using the 5 inch leeches and the 4 inch minnows and it worked great. nearly every cast was a hog small mouth and i got a splake on one to (wasnt targeting splake, it was a deep spot were the smallies usually hang and one must have been there). i dont know if it was the fish being active but it was awesome

i would just toss em out on a drop shot rig and drag the weight on the bottom slowly and as soon as i moved it from being still, smack a big hit.

why is it so special? does it really out fish live bait?

I agree with Frozenfire. One thing about gulp though, note that i never had one of those juice buckets to go with, but in the packs after a season the bait gets hard and unfishable. I love drop-shotting with gulp minnows, hadn't had much sucess with the leeches, but I was using the 3inchers not the 5s.

That is probably my go to artificial. Minnows in WHITE are the best thing you can use at night.
I think that in the fishes' eyes, the thing by itself is like a piece of food already, and the added twitch is what seals the deal for them to commit to the bait. The only bad thing is that they get bitten off so easy.

Hey ec1,

Go to the dollar store and look for the smallest rubber bands you can find, usually only a couple millimeters diameter - the smaller the better. I am lucky enough to have a friend with braces and he uses them for his chompers; I ask him to hook me up with a pack of small rubberbands from his orthodontist. stretch the band around the head part of the minnow, senko, etc. before you thread the hook through. It'll save you baits and coin.

are we all talking about the gulp that comes in the forumla, the samll container of the liquid that smells like absolute s**t? thats what we used:p

I honestly don't use Gulp Alive only because I don't want to lug around a bucket... the same reason I usually don't use live minnows. Having said that, here is my take on Gulp Alive: Everyone here knows I'm a Gulp fanatic - I'm talking about the regular Gulp in packages. (I only use Gulp and Senkos when it comes to soft baits). I have seen Gulp products out-fish live time and time again. Now, the fact that you can re-use and re-charge Gulp Alive takes it over the top! Simply an amazing product IMHO. When I buy a boat (hopefully soon), I will definitely be using it regularly.

Yep Gulp alive rocks! I use it on drop shots, harnesses, and jigs. For me 1 gulp alive minnow is equal to 5 live minnows!

I swear by this stuff. I've caught everthing on gulp alive from crappie to pike, walleye's go for the emeral shiners more. amazing stuff its all i use. the Only thing i hate is once the container is opened they tend to leak after.

Reefrunner, thanks for the tip. Might be trying it out real soon!

And one more thing to tell you guys. I bought a bucket of Gulp Alive 3" crazy legs hopefully for crappie, and I noticed that the Alive baits are MUCH MUCH harder than the ones in the bag. Come to think about it, this MIGHT be a good thing. The fish fry in the alive juice was wayyyyyyy too soft, and was ripped off easily by 2 small fish. Hopefully this is a good investment

Do you use any leaders when jigging and catching pike? I lost 4 tubes last week due to pike cutting the line.

i had a sisth on, i lost it on a drop shot rig. i was relying on my flouro leader to hold up but id gotten snagged a bit earlier and was pulling it out with some heavy drag. line broke because i forgot to turn it back to normal:/ as for the darterhead jig setup

30lb samurai braid, 20lb flouro leader and then steal leader. im very picky about my line

I have used both Gulp alive and live bait. In my opinion live bait is far superior.
