I gotta ask you hammercarp. Are fish caught in Cootes Paradise eligible? Last year I rode over to Cootes at about 5 a.m. so I didn't even know there was a derby that day until I was riding home at about 1 p.m. I saw the leader board at Bayfront and the biggest catfish was listed at about 3 lbs. I had let an 8 lber go that morning. No one at the weight station could tell me if Cootes Fish were eligible.

If you had the fish recorded at the Fishway/ carp barrier it would have counted as far as I know. Did you catch it on the harbour side or the marsh side of the barrier?

I was on Cootes, the marsh side. I have a nice quiet spot where I hardly ever see anyone unless I bring a friend. They were set up at the "carp barrier" ( Lol.) I'm laughing at the word barrier. As I said I didn't even know there was a derby, but I compared the fish I had released to the current leader so I asked and know one knew if Cootes fish were eligible.
Do you need to pre register for the derby? Last year I left my house at 5 a.m. and was fishing by 5.30. The booths for the derby weren't even set up at that time. That is why I was unware of it until I was on my way home. The 8 lber came at about 10 a.m.

How does this derby work? Is there a category for every fish sepcies? Ie. Largest carp, catfish, pike etc?
