Hey gang, heading up north to the bush to see what's nibbling... looking for 5+lbs of smallmouth, and maybe some eyes and pike. Hopefully, this time my wife doesn't outfish me. (she usually does) I'll post when I get back. :)

G'Luck. I always get outfished by "lesser" experienced partners. I think of it more as that I'm "guiding" them to the fish lol.

Well, we're back. Fishing was a little slower than usual - I caught 35, wife 20, so a rare win for the guys. Mostly pike with a few walleye and smallmouth, but nothing close to previous years. Seems everything is 2 weeks late this year and we came in on the tail end of the shad flies. We had great weather and a good week - fish fry everyday.
Looking forward to a two week stretch in September.

Well ladies and gents, it's that time of year... kids are headed back to school, cottages are emptying out, bugs are gone... think I'll go fishin'
See ya in a couple of weeks!
ps: try to behave while I'm away.

Joel, you make us all jealous with this new found freedom. Have a great time up there and we look forward to your story!

Thanks, I'm sure there will be a few stories... barometer's doing a yoyo and full moon rising. <grin> I picked up a fishing barometer at BP. I've been watching it for about a week and it seems to be pretty accurate to my digital backyard weather station.

Well if you really want to know why women so often outfish a man thats in the same boat..it is usually because the fish smell or tastes a hormone that is excreted out our(men) skin ..so if you like to equal that playing field then by some scents and dose your bait after you touch it ..this also the same with cigerette and deet the tastes and smell will deter many bites...Gl and fish on..

It's official - guys win again! Posting from my BB in the cabin. Fishing's done and I won 7 days, her 2 and the rest were ties. Total fish count +6 for me so a 2011 sweep for me - she may never live this down! Headed home in the morning, but I'll post some pictures later.

Here it is. We had two weeks up there, and the first week was unbelievably nice. Walking around in a tshirt and bathing suit most of the time! Fishing was good, but not the best we've seen - second week a cold front blew in and everything turned off for about three days, then really slow fishing followed. In all fairness, we may have spent more time socializing with friends than fishing, but we did manage to eat walleye pretty much every day - we ate smallies and pike a couple of times too. All in all a good vacation.
Here's some pictures.

Great pics. What did you use to catch the walleye with? Looks like it hit mid-day, it must have been down deep. Walleye is my fave eating fish, if I ever catch one.......lol. Average size smallie? I never been able to find smallies that big, yet. I may not be going up north enough but that's a great size. I never caught anything over 1 1/2 lbs. Thanks for sharing.

You're right, mid day at about 20-25' on a jighead with half a worm - not rocket science.

The thrust of the rocket is given by the theoretical equation :

F = lm(dot) ve + ( pe - pa ) Ae

Now can anyone explain the formula to me?.........lol.

If I was in an anchored boat, I'd use 4-6 lb mono line, light action rod, sunny day so I'd probably go with a white 1/4 oz jig maybe 3" yellow or white curly tail grub then the half worm or 3" minnow if they not biting worm.

If the boat was drifting then I would go with just the worm on a hook and a walking sinker. Let the worm drag along the bottom to find them, since I don't have a fish finder. Then I'd throw out a marker bouy, there may be a bunch of them in a hole or near structure.

Do you think I would catch anything with either of those set ups?

Sounds like a great time.

Thats a pretty amazing picture of the evening fishing. Great shot

Don't know, I use a jighead (whatever colour) with half a worm or a minnow. You should try your setup, but I suggest you invest in a depth finder with gps. When we find a spot, we can go back to it. Often, new fish move in to replace the ones you catch.
Thanks Greggys, it was an awesome sunset that night. The almost full moon rose in a pink and blue sky in behind us.
