Was a nice day, orignally I was going to Lake St.George beside Lake Wilcox, but the gate was closed & there was new sign saying "Not Open To Public", so my buddy & I instead decided to check out Haynes Lake up on Leslie, just above Bethesda rd. in Oak Ridges (its a small pike/bass/panfish lake). Checked it out once before but I didn't have time to fish it, so since it was a nice day & all, we decided to try it out.

Right when we arrived there I already saw 1 descent LM that came cruising in to check us out and about 5-10 minutes later I noticed a good amount of panfish (sunfish/rockbass/bluegill) that were in the shallows right in front of us, which seemed to be active. We decided to go Ultra-Light !! It was a perfect oppurtunity to test my new UL (ultra-light) rod, and also try out one of my new baits (Steel Jigs) which were meant for steelhead, but for some odd reason I had a feeling they would do the trick, and they sure did !! Here's the results & a few pics of my new UL rig.

Nice report...

So where are the pictures of those out of season Bass? Huh? Just kidding!

...
Hey, why did you give that rock bass a red eye?

lol, the funny part is, he actually felt like real descent sized bass on the UL gear !! gave a nice fight. I have a new appreaciation for panfish ;)

His Red Eye ? He almost came from behind, so I quickly turned-around & socked him in the eye, thats REAL story of how I caught him, lmao, nevermind the report. :D

awesome! on my ultralight setup, I have the shimano sedona on a shimano clarus. very similar to yours... i've landed tons of crappies on that setup...and very pleased with it.

i caught a pike here once with a red dollarama inline spinner... ive been back a few times to try to get a picture of one, but couldnt catch anything. its kinda uncomfortable fishing there though, you have all these cars driving by.

Oh yeah...

My Ultra Light 5'6" + Bluegill = Fight on!
Oh, i use a 4lb mono.

Also,,,

YOU MUST buy Rapala 1.5 or 2" Floating minnow.

Freaking awesome TOP WATER action! (especially at peak feeding hours).

When you say "one of your new baits", you mean one that you made? If so, congrats on your first official report with a homemade lure! :D

I definitely like the ultra-light setup... Imagine what a nice bass would feel like on that setup. :) I think I might splurge a little $ this summer...

BTW, I stopped by here last summer and talked to a man who told me that there's lot's of pike in this lake... but not very accessible from that particular spot. A tube/canoe/boat/inflatable would do well in this lake.
