Hey guys i will be heading out to the kawarthas in a few hours with a co worker of mines. We still have not reach an agreement weather its going to be shore fishing or if were going to rent a boat @ rice lake. My worker mainly does shore fishing I on the other hand are more experiencing fishing offshore, I have only fish from shore @ vallens, balsam & the liftlock. My co worker is a very indecisive type of guy & can change is mind every half hour about where he wants to fish or what setup he should use. I don't expect it to be a walk in the park at all today fishing with him. I have tried my best to persuade him into renting the boat & fishing around Hiawatha area since i am well familiar with that area & have had great success early in the season fishing their. My plan is if were going to head out to the kawarthas why go their just to catch pan fish? I mean its only the second day bass has open so you know the lake is well sock & i am certified to rent the boat plus i am paying for it. I mean it would be completely insane for someone to want to fish from shore but My co worker on the other hand have strong beliefs that he can catch bass one after the next from the shore, in my four years of fresh water fishing i have never seen anyone done this & i can go on to say i have spent 18hrs on a boat only to catch 2 bass much less from the shoreline. If he disagree with the boat rental i will try & get him to go to the liftlock since the last time i was their i saw 2 anglers catching decent size fish one after the next using leeches i eventually caught one. If we dont rent the boat or go to the liftlock & go along with his plans fishing in omemee, bobcageon, bock horn or under the bridge @ keen i am predicting a day of catching nothing but sunfish. Before i go I would like to thank my good friend up on rice lake for his kindness & hospitality for inviting me on his boat & all that i have learnt from him the last 3 years we have fish together hope all is well with him.

Below is the fish i caught @ the liftlock not sure of the species IMG_1086.PNG

Second pic is @ rice lake I caught the bass my good friend caught the walleye.a1.JPG

If you're covering the cost of the boat rental, it seems like a no-brainer for your fishing partner to go on the boat... you definitely have better chances since you can hit more spots!

Either way, best of luck!

Rent the boat - if fishing shallow sucks move deeper. I don't know much about bass but having the boat is better than being stuck near shore. By the way - nice pics

First of all i would like to apologize to my co worker for questioning his integrity, after a great day of fishing with him i was completely off in my thinking. A few monster got away from me one actually sallow a pech that i caught once they are hook they take off & tie up the line in old structure, i was on light weight gear & wasn't properly equip because never thought monster would come shallow. i will be ready next time with shiners & a stinger. here are some pic's

Lol know that spot fish it every year and your buddy is correct there are some really big bass there. When the biting stops from the flows all you got to do is head by the side of the rock and fish the pillions for the bridge. Lots of snags but if you get past that there's 2-4 lb sm and the odd lm to be had. Plus there's always walleye and musky there to supplement the outing.

thanks for the tip but from my experience this excellent fishing conditions wont last as season goes on, a co worker of mines just told me today he went to downtown Barrie on Sunday & got skunked when the previous weekend he had caught 9 bass 1-3 lb so the process of depletion has already begun.

it's always hit or miss when fishing. fish move around. and if they got hammered, most of the time they will move. 9 bass last weekend, why did he kept fishing that spot if he kept getting bass? i'm just curious.

Considering Bass was not open, if you are continuously catching them, it is recommended that you stop fishing that spot. In fact, if you are caught doing so, the ministry can give you quite the hard time about it. I really hope those fish were not kept.
