hey guys i will be going to valens this friday planning on renting one of the paddle boats from 8am to 6pm, i have been to this lake 3 times & was never disappointed even though i never caught a bass i caught 1 crappy & some nice size sunfish, all from the bridged i saw other people caught bass & a pike bit off my relative line, anyways if anyone wants to join me let me know. Thanks

Its a very weedy lake, try fishing around the lsland and along the far side shore along the weed beds

Island is your best bet pulled out tons of pike from there with a clankin rapala lure. My dad pulled out a 4 1/2 pound largemouth out of there 3 weeks ago was a monster.

Also the side where the road is you will see a tree that is close to the water about 25-30ft out I've caught some 28" pike from there. Again with a Clankin Rapala. Honestly there is mostly just pike in that lake.

Have fun. Put up pics when you come back.

Caught this couple years ago

Wouldn't waste your time the water is 4 ft lower than usually due to the construction in allanburg and makes fishing almost impossible

the water is actually higher than last year my bobber was set at almost 3 feet casting everywhere.

Well guys went to valens & caught nothing but perch, got there around 6am went on the bridge hoping to take advantage of prime time fishing but nothing was biting it was really cold 8 degrees smoke coming off the water so i didn't waste much time freezing & frustrating myself because i knew it was a cold front shutting down fish activity, i headed back to the car until around 8:30am i headed back to the bridge where i met 1 angler who a few small perch anyways i fished for a bit ended up catching 1 perch myself was getting bites but don't think it was from any other species. At 10:30am i decided to head back to the car since it was too hot & not good fishing conditions. I decided to take a walk down to the boat rental area where i saw 1 angler preparing his boat to head out & a few that was already on the water fishing, since my original plan was to rent a boat i paced back & forth while observing the boaters looking to see if anyone was reeling in any fish there was nothing no action at all since i had my nephews with me & my observations of the other anglers it really made no sense renting the boat. I then decided to walk around the park a bit & spend some time with my nephews it was a beautiful scenery & nice people. At 4pm we decided to head back to the bridge their were 5 anglers already there no one caught anything but small perch, i set my rod out worm, bobber & hook setup casting in different areas no bites whatsoever whenever i got frustrated i went back to the spot where the perch were biting to cheer myself up they were their caught a few even though they were pencil like size. Later on in the evening a lot more anglers came then i got my hopes up hoping that the king size sunfish that were in abundance last year will show up but they never did like they went into extinction. Even though i hadn't caught a decent size fish i still had a great time with my nephews, the prech give them some good fishing practice & they did very well the younger one caught about 5 perch showed a lot of courage to bait his own hook & wasn't afraid to remove the fish from his hook, as for the other who i had to stop from fishing because he was afraid to touch worms & fish he finally started doing it in the end. Every year that goes by the fishing seems to be getting more tough last year at valens when i saw people taking away all those big sunfish the question ran on my mind would their be more left & after yesterday i guess we are finding out the cold truth, i was at Glen Haffy couple weeks ago out of 20 anglers only 1 caught 2 trout I don't even want to mention my disappointments at rice lake, when i watch canadian sport fishing on tv & i see pro anglers like italo who will acquire the assistance of & outfitter to put them on the fish or other pro anglers who will go way up north to make their fishing show & will even say the reason why they go their is because of less fishing pressure it all makes sense now, it's really a sad story to know that the lakes are being depleted due to the fishing pressure. I hope that the ministry can make certain lakes catch & release in order to replenish fish stock. Anyways you guys feel free to comment.

Sounds exactly like my last time there. And I rented the boat and nothing! Not even a bite. As for catch and release valens says you should catch and release but its not an enforced rule I know everyone there takes fish, heck I've taken a pike home before that's it. And that's all I've ever caught out of that lake.. But they do enforce about not being able to fish until the ice melts till bass opens up regulation wise. Yet does not really seem to help the lake bring its population back. Honestly don't really think ill be fishing valens anymore it's not what it was years ago.

Thanks for the response, you know one can ague that its late in the season & fish stocks are depleted but if that's the case you mean to tell me the species will rebound it self till next season, I mean does it only takes 12 months for a baby bass to mature? If you look at everything that's happen in the world right now everything Is difficult from catching wild life to a bad economy, I watch TV shows like mountain men & below zero the guys on their cant even catch a carabao or deer, the world resources are dwindling while the population is increasing. I wanted to buy a boat but what fun is it to drive 2 or 3 hours from home only to catch a few bass if you get lucky. When I watch WFN it is loaded with advertisement to promote all sort of fishing equipment, why don't these company's invest some money in helping out the fisheries instead. Anyways to some Anglers it may be fun to be out their trolling all day not catching anything but to me it's not i rather go fish for pencil size perch.
