Hello everyone,

I'm sure I'll enjoy conversing with you, I'm stoked to have joined!

I'm a lifelong bass angler living in Ottawa. I usually fish, camp, and canoe around southeastern Ontario and western Quebec.

I'm looking forward to expanding my fishing knowledge and repertoire, and if you feel the same way please know that I welcome all questions, comments, opinions, and tales about fishing and the outddoors!

Best regards,

BackwoodsBassr

Welcome! Backwoods fishing is the best -- especially in the 613. :)

Thanks for the welcome gents!

Joe, totally agree with you! I've fished many great spots in the 613 and I know I've barely scratched the surface...

Welcome to the forum. You guys really think 613 is better then SO or the Kawarthas? You gotta hook me up to some spots......lol.

Welcome

Secluded lakes filled with greedy bass surrounded by breath taking scenery... if you don't mind the portage, bug bites, poison ivy and bears lurking around your campsite... :p

FishingNoob:

Thanks for the interest, I can't wait until I can share some! Getting my first camera this year and hopefully I'll be able to document some solid portages and feeding frenzies...(leaning towards a gopro for durability and versatility but if anyone has an opinion feel free to share!).

grubman:

I have very little experience fishing SO, and the Kawartha Highlands are on my list for this summer (let me know anyone if you've been to the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, I'm looking for as much advice as I can get!).

I can't say that I think one area of the province is better than the other but I will say that I've had some unreal moments on remote lakes in the 613 at an extremely low cost. topwaterjoe is right, if you don't mind the extra work and precautions that are a necessary part of backwoods fishing (or better yet, if you enjoy the backwoods experience!), you will not be let down by the lakes in the 613. The bite is really hard to match and, although you likely won't find as many tanks as you would in the larger lakes in SO and the Kawartha's, you'll often have the pleasure of having an entire lake and schools of bass to yourself!

As for some of the good spots in the 613...this could use it's own topic and can't be relegated to a reply haha but I would begin by recommending that you try almost anything in and around the Rideau lakes area (Smith's Falls, Westport areas etc...); Frontenac Provincial park and the surrounding lakes are also full of fish and come with unreal natural beauty as the Ottawa valley landscape meets the Canadian Shield. I found the portage routes at Frontenac to be immaculate, well mapped, and absolutely gorgeous. For a more urban experience you may want to take on the Rideau and Ottawa rivers, especially if you're in to muskie...

Cheers!
