Hey there folks,

New to the forums and been fishing for a few years and I have been living in Cambridge for two years. But can't seem to find any decent spots around here I am a 3 min walk from the Grand in Preston (right where the speed river falls is) but no action there sadly. So was wondering if anyone can point me to good parts of the river or any lakes or ponds in the area that are known to have fish. I go to Shades Mills, Little Lake and Puslinch Lake mostly and mostly shore fish. I have no boat sadly. So any advice or tips would be great.

Thanks,
Eric.

hey, i lived in cambridge all 27 yrs of my life, the grand is off the hook,(once bass opens) but there so many places it makes it hard to fish it.

behind the beer store is good, or if u go down the trail and go past the flour mill, real good for pike. many places for bass, if you head up the beaverroad trail just past the 401 bridge. (speed river)
if u want trout, go to fergus, or blair road.
or mill creek, lots of browns there.
i know many spots..
cheers

Thanks 420,

I know all them spots haha. But thanks for the reply. The Grand is crazy high today. Went down and it was way way to high flooding the land around it.

Eric.

All spots mentioned so far offer fantastic fishing.

If you want to catch more fish - consider varying your bait and time of day that you are fishing.

For pike in that area, I like spinners because you can cover a lot of area. Once you've honed in on a spot with pike, they work great, you can also use live or dead minnows.

Pike seem to bite best in the morning, and also during the last hour before it's completely dark. I've caught at other times - but have had excellent action in the morning and evening.

Bass - I only target bass after sundown. The last 20 minutes of light and right up until midnight. I use a curly tail grub on the surface of the river in areas where I suspect they are feeding, such as rapids and pools near rapids.

Walleye - Before sunrise and after sunset. Spinners, Crank/jerk baits or minnow on a jig.

You would be able to enjoy Little Lake and Puslinch Lake much more with a boat or canoe. Shades Mills, try tossing a frog off the dock or anywhere that fish are biting, you might get a largemouth after the frog.

littel lake is awesome mid summer. full of crappie bass perch and pike. that i have caught before..
i hear walleye, but i donno. ive been out with a canoe cant wait to go again.

Thanks for the help guys, so I now have a rough idea when to head out behind my house. What about the browns at mill creek whats the best time to hit that area? If you don't want to say on here pm me if need be and I surely will keep it to myself.

right now! they are eating alot of flys,

Went yesterday at about that time and nothing. Used a fly rod and a spinner with trout eggs and not even a nibble. Was pretty disappointed. Everytime I go I have no luck at that area and I'm usually there from 7pm to 12am ish and nothing.

Might just stop going to mill creek lol.

just moved here 2 weeks ago went to grand no fish maybe we can help each other find places to fish have no friends to fish . thanks Paulo

Hey guys! I'm from Kitchener and hit the the Grand between the Museum and Conestoga College.

Have had great success with bass (see picture).

Preference is crank baits and top waters in the early mornings. Jerk the the crap out of them and watch those bass attack them! Also used spoons at a slow retrieval rate in the fall.

My favourite, and most successful tactic is the berkley power tube in smoke colour loaded with some lunker scent.

Always looking for some company on the river. Let me know if you're interested in heading out sometime.
