Hey, just joined as find I am hunting for lots of info on fishing this summer. Grew up on the Rock (yes Newfoundland, there is another rock ?) For fresh water its basically trout and salmon back home. There is some other stuff but that’s the big 2. I always fished for trout, which meant a worm on a hook, and sometimes a bobber depending on where and that was it.

I am now Ceader valley (its a hamlet of Erin township, just west of hillsburgh, my postal code actually used Hillsburgh). I am lucky as I have some great rivers near me and a bunch of lakes to test out that contain a bunch of things. My main target is Bass and Pike, but hey I will go after anything. But of course there is the issue, a worm and hook don’t work on everything here. So learning the ropes, the lures and such to use, and different live baits to use and of course where to use it. On top of that trying t figure out where to fish, sure the lakes and rivers are there but access is always fun and in them where are the fun spots. So hey here i am to learn and have fun doing it.

Welcome to OFF.
I have fished Trout and Salmon on many rivers and ponds on the Rock. I have a Newfie brother, not by blood. 20 + years of friendship tho. Atlantics after being gone for years from the Great Lakes are starting to make a come back ( I hear ), but have yet to catch 1 here. You may miss those amazing fish, and their leaps ;)

I grew up in Brampton, so fished the Hillsburg and Erin areas often when younger. Lots of nice streams and rivers to fish but make sure you check out the regs before you head out with a bucket of worms, most of the running water in the area requires artifical lures with single barbless hooks only and no live bait. Fly fishing is a good way to avoid this reg.

Worms will work for Panfish and Bass on the lakes, but for Bass and Pike, crank baits, spoons ( daredevels I find are a Pike killer ), spinners and top-water lures are an awesome way to fish early or late in the day or when overcast. Really can't tell you much about the lakes, this is just a general rule everywhere. Anytime I fish the area I am after " Mud Trout."

GL Alfie.
