I am targetting getting one or two rods from this list - http://www.basspro.com/Ugly-Stik-GX2-Spinning-Rod/product/1304250806406/

I will be fishing pike, bass, walley, salmon.

Here are the possibilities:
1) One rod for all - 7' medium; Line Weight: 6-15 lbs; Lure Weight: 1/8 - 5/8 oz

2) One rod for all - 7' medium heavy; Line Weight: 8-20 lbs; Lure Weight: 1/4 - 3/4 oz.

3) 2 rods:

3.1) One rod for bass, walley - 7' medium; Line Weight: 6-15 lbs; Lure Weight: 1/8 - 5/8 oz

One rod for salmon, pike:
3.2.a ) 7' medium heavy; Line Weight: 8-20 lbs; Lure Weight: 1/4 - 3/4 oz.
OR
3.2.b ) 9' medium; Line Weight: 4-20 lbs; Lure Weight: 1/8 - 3/4 oz.

Please advise which combination is better, or any other combination.

Thank you!

Only 1 rod I have in my car for in case I feel the itch. 8'6" casting rod. from bass to salmon. 8'6" okuma celilo. 10lb. line with a rapala r type 25 spinning reel. medium action. ideal length when you end up in a harbor "unexpectedly"....

3.2b 9'M. It's a bit long for pike, but better for salmon. As DILLIGAF?! said, an 8'6 would be a good compromise, and would work for both Salmon and Pike.

3.1 definitely. And something close to 3.2b. I'm not man enough to wield a 9' stick. I have 8' spinning setup (M/M) that I use for crankbaits and trolling for salmon. Casts a mile too, if I need to chuck one from the shore...

But I'd spend the money and get a good 7' M/F setup instead of splitting the beans for multiple setups at the beginning. Unless money isn't a limit...

Without the mention of Salmon, any of the options will do. There's no problem chucking the spoons. It's what happens when a salmon decides to take you for a spin...that extra length will be a big help...

First of all thanks to everyone for advices!

I got Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Rod 7' medium - for medium fish

For salmon (creek fishing), I am looking now to choose from:

a) Shakespeare Ugly Stik Elite Salmon/Steelhead Rod
http://www.basspro.com/Shakespeare-Ugly-Stik-Elite-Salmon/Steelhead-Rod/product/1407050611372/

8'6" Medium Heavy
Action: Medium Fast
Line Weight: 10-20 lbs.
Lure Weight: 1/2 - 1-1/2 oz.

OR

b ) Shakespeare Ugly Stik Big Water Spinning Rod
www.basspro.com/Shakespeare-Ugly-Stik-Big-Water-Spinning-Rod/product/19912/

8' Medium
Line Weight: 10-25 lbs.
Lure Weight: 3/4 - 3 oz.

it's weird that Ugly Stik Elite Salmon/Steelhead Rod still has no reviews.

I am more for b ) ( Shakespeare Ugly Stik Big Water Spinning Rod ): because it's not so long for a creek, and it has some reviews.
But the guy from the store said it's more for trolling...
He suggested to get a) Shakespeare Ugly Stik Elite Salmon/Steelhead Rod

What do you think guys?

Thank you!

You would be better off with option a. The Big Water ugly stik is better suited for larger fish.

This is the one rod/setup i always have in my car: Fenwick HMG: Model= HMG76L-MFS-2

Rod Power:: Light

Rod Action: Moderate/Fast

Rod Length: 7'6"

Reel: Shimano Sedona 1000 with 6 pound Suffix Elite. I my mind a great all around setup have caught everything from little Blue Gills to a 12 pound Cat on this setup.

I decided to get 9' for salmon exclusivly... when fishing with a lure it's harder to select what fish you will catch.. it could be bass or pike. So if pike will bite, I will be using Ugly Stik GX2.

Ugly Stik Elite 9' will be only for salmon, or any other cases where a longer rod is needed.

Thanks to everyone!

ChromeAddict: thanks!
btw, if anyone is going to purchase any uglystick from basspro, I noticed that the price on receipt was bigger for 10$ (ugly stick elite: 89.99 - 79.99) and 5 (ugly stick gx2: 49.99 - 44.99) than the price on the rod sticker.
They returned me the difference and said they will increase the price on the rod stickers.
If they haven't done that yet, pay attention at the cashier and receipts and ask for difference return.

I have never owned Ugly stik but i can vouch for their durability. My friend only uses ugly stik but he only fish for musky. I find them a tad heavy for my liking.
