Hi All,

I'm not likely to be a mainstay on the forum, but I'll be traveling to the area (Toronto) for business next week (25th and 26th) and wanted to see if I could take advantage of some of the area's offerings! I've often participated in a local forum, so I figured this was a good place to start.

I'll be driving from southwest Michigan and have fished many different freshwater varieties in my short life so far, so I'm not a stranger in proficiency, at least, but hoping to facilitate the help of some locals in taking advantage of my time in the area. I understand the licensing issues, which I'm fine with, but I'm hoping for an afternoon/evening excursion, hopefully, doing some smallmouth fishing. I'm not opposed to a guide, but I don't want to break the bank either.

What do you all suggest? I recognized I could do some searching in the shore-fishing section, but I can say I'm a little spoiled fishing on Lake MIchigan for Salmon and Nothern michigan lakes for smallmouth. Any advise you can provide?

I've read mostly about Simcoe as a perch meca, but also see it has gained quite a reputation for smallmouth, too, and wouldn't be opposed to making the trip north.

Thanks for all your help.

I'm not from the Toronto area so I'm not much help but I would go to a local conservation area and rent a canoe .. You already know what habitat to look for and the baits will be the same as what you use already but as far as hot spots I can't help you there

A guide would probably be your best bet for catching fish, not that you wouldn't catch fish just it might be a hard bite. This guides practically right out of T.O: http://www.fishcity.tv/

All along the TO Harbourfront, from Ontario Place to Ashbridges Bay you can fish and can catch bass, carp, pike, bowfin, etc. Also the Toronto Islands are a good spot for the same species of fish. Cast spoons, crankbaits, softplastics, the same lures that you would use for these species would work here too.

Hopefully someone else can pitch in.

If you are around the week-end, 28th or 29th, I would be happy to show you some places for Smallies and other species. I work during the week days.
Send me a PM if you will be around that long.

Alfie.

Shoot, Alfie, I'm going to be heading back either Thursday evening or Friday otherwise I would take you up on it. I may scratch the idea anyways, as I'd only have an evening to fish and the cost of the license alone makes it difficult to justify.

I appreciate the responses greatly. I'm still open to a few hours of evening fishing, though, if a reasonable opportunity presents itself.
