I have never had a lot of luck with Top Water Bait's but I'm not saying they do not work,I to use Panther Martin's a lot myself I find any fish will bite at them,I like the Number 6 9 and 15 for larger fish.
Check out these Video's and what the one where he is catching Bass and the little trick he does with his finger it really does work and not just with Panther Martin's.I also find a stiffer your work's best with his finger trick as an Ugly Stik or a light action Rod does not give the same action, also make sure to use a Ball Bearing Swivel as these thing cause line twist,I also at the end of a day let out a lot of line behind my boat and pull it for a while to pull the twist's out or let my line out in fast water.

use a popping topwater plug. for peterburogh ive found that big buzzbaits = big fish, ive caught walleye on a palm sized buzzbait in 80 degree water and huge rockbass with the same lure it always works, My word of advice, when in doubt throw a spinnerbait

IMO topwater isn't that productive in most situations.

From my experience in bass fishing, I always try crankbaits first, unless I'm fishing lily pads or 1 ft or less of water. Sometimes the fish don't want the big, noisy bait, so this is when I switch to a spinnerbait. But first, here's my favourite crankbaits: cotton cordell in silver for muddy water or a more natural colour in clear water. For spinnerbaits I have these lucky strike things with a little spinner on a wire that forms a triangle. There is a jig head on the bottom of the triangle with these plastic tentacles coming off it. The little spinner is on top. I lightly cast this into small coves. If the spinner doesn't work then you have to go to soft plastics. I like a texas rigged 6" plastic worm in the pink or bubblegum colour. Jig that along the bottom. If that doesn't work then try a wacky rigged 6" senko worm.

Make sure your like is at least 8 lbs. my favourite line weight is 8 because it works for everything. Also, remember, these are bass. Ensure that every bait you get is at least 1 1/2 inches long.Bass hang around structure in and out of the water like logs, overhanging trees, rock piles, weeds, or deeper water. Coves are often productive too.

If the lake has mats and sweet grass heavy cover use a frog. And drag across top. Jitter bug and buzz baits work well. If there is not much cover i wouldnt go top watr

If you find the Fish aren't biting when using a Panther Martin try putting a Real Worm on one of the Hook's or Berkley Powerbait,I have seen it more then once fishing Brown's where they push the thing along as you reel it in and the same with Bass and I think sometime's they know something up with it but if you make it smell like something they have smelt before then they seem to bite more on day's when that are a bit tougher on the water.

Another thing is get a single Hook and cut the Treble off and use a Mr Twister with some scent on it or any kind of rubber bait that will flap around on the hook when you are reeling it in.

I'm just starting to Walleye fish and a friend who has fish them for many year's take's a Number 9 or 15 and cut's the Treble Hook off the Panther Martin's and takes a 3 to 4 inch peace of line and ties a single hook on to it and ties the line with the hook on to the Panther Martin where the Treble was and say's they are incredible sometime's.

I find Panther Martin's to spin a bit faster then a Mepp's style Blade and from what fishing expert's say because of the funny hump on the Blad of a PMartin they seem to make more noise then a Mepp's as well.

One thing I can add. Martin is thru the blade. Plus it spins even if you're going with the current not against it.

Jitterbugs just before nightfall is one of my fav ways to fish for big bass. During the day though i find them less effective. I usually catch them on crank bait (rap-n-rap, big-0 etc) or a blue fox vibrax. an other trick i've used near weed beds when nothing else is working, is just a big ol hook n worm no bobber. through it out as far as you can in shallow water... and slowly reel it in till a strike. Sounds to simple n easy but I've caught a ton this way when nothing else was working.
