Hey members of OFF. I am usually out giving everyone my tips for fishing Rice Lake but I am thinking about trying out a few more tricks using my waders on the grand river for smallmouth! I really dont know what areas of the grand to hit and I really dont know where to look? If anyone has experience with the grand please PM or message me via my thread. Also if anyone wants to head out with me and they know the grand I would love to get out and share tips.

Well i fish there all the time.i normally.use stick baits, soft.craws imitations. Early morning i use a rebel pop r. Or eveving its been good too. I noticed they are eating these bugs on.the top of the water.not.really.sire what theu are though!?!

Good call, they can be deadly at times.

after cambridge towards paris I've had good luck there all up the river. i find using a spinner or a jig your choice of grub/shad. either works like a charm. when using the spinner you might get a nice supprize a speckled trout, there in there.

A Speck would be quite the surprise. After 40 years I am confident in saying there are not many to zero Specks in the Grand, some of the small creeks that run into it yes but the Grand itself is way to warm and has a low oxygen count to support Brookies.
If you have found a population of Specks, not Browns in the Grand please send a PM.

Where abouts? I've tried in paris multiple times just up the river from the dam and only have managed to catch smaller sized bass. Ive tried under the bridge along glen morris rd but have had no luck. Any place you wouldnt mind sharing ?

Ive been up and down river road connecting paris and cambridge probably half a dozen time the past two weeks looking to catch fish lol

How about the caledonia dam, there's a nice spot where you can use your waders and also there is a bait and tackle shop.

This is the place I first started fishing.

heres the link to the bait and tackle store caledoniabaitandtackle.com/

They have fish and river reports so you can get some info of what is happening there

Hope I helped,

I agree that the dam is a good place to fish as I have said many times on this forum. The lady at Caledonia Bait knows us well, she sees us every week or 2 during the fishing season :D .
So many different types of fish to catch there but I agree waders are needed to get away from the crowds on shore. I recently took another OFF member to the dam. He was reluctant as he said he never caught anything from shore. I gave him an old pair of waders I had and got him out in the middle of the river. He became a believer on what I actually considered a pretty slow day for the dam. ( About 5 Smallies, 5 Channels and a few Rock Bass.)
Don't limit yourself to just the dam either, there is lots of fishing to be done all the way down to the rivers mouth, with lots of access points.

been trying to catch a nice bass from the grand for since spring time! are people catching decent sized bass still or is the bass in the river more of a seasonal thing? (spring and fall)?

getting a little annoyed at fishing on the grand, was considering selling my motorcycle for a small fishing boat Next year! that's how bad I wanna hook some nice fish!

might try to grand again tn near Paris, picked up some of those famous senkos everyone was talking about...if no luck my last resort is Mohawk park Lol!(let's hope not)
