Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, new to Toronto and new to Canada, but not new to fishing.
Grew up and lived in Ukraine but life has changed a great deal and currently I reside in North York, GTA.

I'm crazy about fishing, camping and good fellows gathered around a fireplace!

My favorit fishes are pike and bass, catfish as well. Used to fish carp, but I'm not really a carp pro :).

I have two kids and my son (9 years old) is also crazy fisherman.
Still need to buy equipment for us and hopefully will manage to arrange a couple of fishing trips coming summer and fall.

So, nice to be here, nice to be a part of fishing community and really hope to be not only the forums reader but the forum writer as well.

Best of luck to everybody on the river banks and not only!

Regards,
Roman

Welcome! How was fishing in Ukraine? A great experience for you and your son would be fishing the Trout run, the season opens up this Saturday, if you do get a chance check it out, catching Rainbows is a load of fun.

Tight lines,

Welcome to the forums! I'm a multi species fan myself! What type of rod and reel do you use? Toronto has some great fishing, from pike and bass to sunfish and perch. Just got to know where to look. If your ever planning a trip in the city let me know via pm and I can help you out.

Like Giuga10 said, trout opener is this Saturday, I don't fish for trout, but it would sure be fun for the boy and you.

Thanks for the prompt replies and suggestions.

Fishing in Ukraine sometimes was very successful. Usually I used to take 2 weeks vacation in autumn spending them camping in a river bank with other great guys fishing from sunrise till sunset. Usually a lot of perch, walley and of course - pikes.
In a winter season loved to fish perch and bream.

I haven't bought a fishing gear yet since I've arrived risently. Need/plan to do it soon.

Never tried catching a trout. What tackles/lures would you guys suggest?

You can catch Trout on lots of things, Spinners, spoons, jigs, worms, roe (salmon/trout eggs), corn (I caught a 6lber yesterday on corn), flies (if you fly fish) and much more.

For rod and reel a semi durable rod, something that can hold about 6-10 lbs is key but most rods will surpass that quite easily, for line same thing 6-10 lb is perfect and you're all set to go. If you do plan on heading out PM me and I can tell you where to go.

Hello Roman.

Nice to see another North Yorker on this forum, just sent you a PM with a couple of fishing shops that I have visited in our area, hope that you find them useful.
