Hello,

I'm planning on getting back into fishing this summer, as I had to quit about 10yrs ago to theft (lost 75% of all personal belongings). I'm finally in a position where I can start throwing cash at new fishing equipment and I'm quite excited about it :)

I don't eat fish, so I use to catch&release daily(warmer months) for 20yrs as a kid/young adult as something to do.

As I'm a VP to an org that helps the environment (unrelated to fish), I'm hoping to learn where invasive fish are (hopefully near by) and target them this summer. My goal is to bring a hobby back into my life as I don't like sitting at home alone (boring), and its a hobby that my dog can get involved in too.

I'm new(ish) to the GTA so I know zip about fishing down here. I hope you guys can handle a noobish gal trying to get back out there.

Welcome, hope you find the info you're seeking here. And hopefully you'll be able to get rid of some unwanted!

Welcome, lots of info and helpful people here. I am from Markham too, you should not find it difficult to find invasive species around here, sometimes even in the storm ponds .lol. Give it a few weeks and come summer, let me know if you needed directions/help

I got a call from my mom one day telling me my brother and his friends had taken my boat 3 fishing rods and my two box's of gear. He apparently over loaded the boat hit a rock and lost everything. That hurt.

Storm ponds?
I've been in Markham for about 2yrs now, but haven't explored much as I work 12-15hr days, and city life bores me so I just garden or veg all weekend. I miss living in the sticks.

The biggest help I need at the moment is what kind of Rod/Reel to buy, and one that'll fold in half so it can fit into my car.
I grew up with a little folding blue rod that was fine for Bass, Sunfish, other smaller fish. I have no interest in monster fish like Musky (I do not want another run in with those freaks!!! Good fish story though lol) or anything else that could over power me. I'm only a wee thing, so monster fish are just not happening +pointy teeth, dear lord the number of angry teeth on those things! lol

Oh no that is terrible, sorry you lost all your gear, esp the boat. Hope the boys were ok

I would suggest an inexpensive med/light to med action spinning combo. Lots of them out there $30 and up. Mind you, ya get what you pay for so I personally wouldn't waste money on the really cheap stuff. I'd recommend a combo in the $100 range. Happy shopping!
