HI all, name is Ken and I like to fish. Been fishing for 20 years but still have a lot to learn. I have a fishing/travel blog and keep a lifelist going. If that interests you, check it out.

Welcome to OFF ken. Saw your blog from a while back. I'm a member of OSF as well. You're a good contribution to this forum and looking forward to more awesome pics...

My favourite species are the ones I haven't caught yet, if that makes sense. LOL

I love researching about new species to target, seeking out promising locations and planning trips to go after them, and taking great photographs. After I've caught a particular species, I usually move onto the next. Life is too short to dwell on and dedicate onto just one species when there are over 32,000 species of fish to catch ;)

I fish for everything...so it's hard to find a favourite. I tend to get out and fish prime time for a species, then having my fill after a trip or two, I move onto another species. This year alone, I've caught over 35 species in Ontario since Jan 1, 2013. This year wasn't as great since I fish relatively less locally, choosing to save my time and money to fish other destinations. I did catch 72 new species from Florida, Virginia, Illinois, Quebec, Ontario, Texas and Belize this year.

I'm going back to Florida to visit family before the year end, so I hope to add a few more species and hopefully catch a few new shark species there. It would be really nice to finally catch a Bonnethead and a Blacktip. :)

Anyways, if you are curious, here are the species I caught in Ontario this year...only 3 of them were new species added (Brook Stickleback, Fathead Minnow and Johnny Darter).

Creek Chub
Common Shiner
Striped Shiner
Silver Shienr
Emerald Shiner
Blacknose Dace
Fathead Minnow
Bluntnose Minnow
Fallfish
Common Carp
White Sucker
Silver Redhorse
Shorthead Redhorse
Golden Redhorse
Pumpkinseed Sunfish
Bluegill Sunfish
Green Sunfish
Black Crappie
Rockbass
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
Longnose Gar
Channel Catfish
Brown Bullhead
White Perch
Brook Stickleback
Muskellunge
Northern Pike
Johnny Darter
Yellow Perch

Welcome MuskieBait. I booked marked your blog last year when I saw you on another forum. Nice stuff you do.

Nope, in fact, they are never safe. Fly fishing for small stream brook trout ranks in the top three of my favourite local fishing...if I have to pick favourites.

I've caught many of the local species already...and I can't always hunt new species elsewhere due to time and budget restriction...so while I love species hunting, I still need to scratch that itch locally...and things like fly fishing for brook trout is the perfect way to scratch that itch.

I usually dedicate a couple of session for small stream brook trout each year...and usually never fail to catch some each year. They are awesome fun on dry flies. :)
