Hip wader repair

I have a cheap pair of hip waders from CT and the rubber boot has a gash about an inch long on the upper half of the boot. Water leaks in slowly but i defiantly wanna fix it before the colder weather comes. Ive already tried rubber cement, bike tire repair patches and the repair kit that came with the waders (the glue was meant for the neoprene) and nothings worked, ive been thinking of some sort of epoxy or even good ole JB weld. Any thoughts? Ive heard theres a marine products called 5200 or something its supposed to be strong and waterproof but is it flexible enough? If anyone has any idea im open to trying just about anything as the waders were cheap lol

If the gash is where your boot bends it will be almost impossible to patch, otherwise I would look for Aquaseal at your nearest tackle dealer or at a dive shop. Shoegoo is another product that may work, but does't last as long as Aquaseal.

I was thinking that as well. I used to use it on my workboots on the toe area. Was great to keep the wear down on my boots while i sandblasted. I bet if you could get a good bond that it would work.

Red do not use JB Weld or epoxy, these cure hard not flexible. Is this the type that is canvas impregnated rubber? That's what I started with as my first hip waders. It cracked above the knee and now they are just boots, I cut the upper parts off........lol.

Staffman is most likely correct. I used ShooGoo to fix the cracks in the boot and they are fine.

I think that liquid rubber in a can is a scam. To me it looks like rubberized undercoating for your car, it's sold for $5 a can at CT and princess auto. Put it in a infomercial and now it's $19.99 a can but if you order now they'll give you another for free.......lol.

3m S200 or 5200 sounds really good but I have not tried it yet. I'd put my money on ShooGoo, check aquaseal if it's cheaper.

I first used rubberized undercoating spray when I bought used step bars for my pathfinder. My buddy told me to get that spray to cover up the rust, and since it's rubber, stones will bounce off it so to say. I've used the spray on many other things but nothing like on the infomercial, a screen door. If you notice when they do the boat bottom and put it in the water that there's no flexing of the screen? Fibreglass screen is not stiff and should have bulged right up, the rubber is not that strong to make the screen stiff, they say it stays flexible, so the weight of just the boat alone should have made it bulge up. Then when the guy is in the boat the screen looks perfectly flat and his feet are to the door sides not resting on the screen. Something is not right there so to me it's just a scam. Selling rubberized car undercoating as something special and charging double. A sucker is born every minute.......lol. Or we need The Mythbusters to do the same test.

you can get shoe goo at walmart or canadian tire, comes in a big ol' tube for like $6 - much cheaper than aquaseal

I made out good with the shoogoo without clamping the crack. I just filled in the area and it did cure waterproof. What's the price difference between the two? My hip waders were rubberized canvas. If yours are the same then I think it should work for you. Good luck.

Any 3m product is really good. Who makes aquaseal? You know where and how much it costs?

I been thinking to make my boots into hip waders again. What I was planning is buying the shower floor pan liner. If any of you do renovations then you'll be familiar with it. It's a rubber or vinyl sheet that is sold by the foot and 4 ft wide. I recall it is cheap. I plan to cut to hip or mid-thigh length and then use shoogoo or the 5200. Either I'll have hip waders again or I'll have wet feet......lol.

Anyone have experience with the 5200 to say it will work? I'm pretty sure the shoogoo will but if the 5200 is stronger they that's the one I'd like to try.

Hey all,

I'm also having trouble with my waders. Have yet to detect the source of the leak, however this is my second pair leaking somewhere between the body of the waters and the rubber boot. I've tried a waterproof sealant on the outside but havent had any success. Was trying to avoid spending $$$ on another pair, but did you manage to fix yours yet? when you find a good solution feel free to pm me, i'll just have to deal with trench foot for the next couple weeks.

Anyone have any suggestions im looking to spend about 250 including wading boots.

Red I would not bother with the rocker guard spray. The Shoo Goo should be enough. Make sure you clean the area first. I'd use alcohol.

Aquaseal if you can find it. There's a zodiac repair place in Etobicoke where all police and military stuff goes. They got it there, but danged if I can remember what the place is called. If you're near Orangeville you can grab the tube I have left.

If anyone has ever worked with PL2000 they'll know what this stuff is like. It sticks to anything and does what it's supposed to do.

Buy Goop, similar to Shoogoo, Michaels craft sells them at their glue section, Grab the 40% coupon available on line. CT also sells them but more expensive. Then use the rubber bike tire patch for sealing bike inner tube as the outer covering. Add more glues to the outer edges of the patch. The glue dries somewhat flexible like rubber, smooth out by itself upon drying. I also use it to patch not just my waders , but also my Tennis shoes sole for added traction. leave the glue to dry for 48 hrs to 100% cure. I was able to patch an Inflatable , and the patch was as strong as any rubber.

Best all around Glue one needs to have at home. I normally buy few tube when I go to michaels, with their 40% off coupon, sometimes they have the 50% coupon. The coupon is only good for 1 item, someone else has to go with you to buy another item to use another coupon, Michaels also sell Beads as well.

You might also consider patching the inside damage part of the waders, similar procedure with the rubber patch and Goop. Double protection.

aquaseal is way better than any goop or goo. more money but you can use less and it holds better
