Hey,

I mentioned in the shoutbox that I caught my first bass on a wet fly which I tied myself.. I was using it on spinning gear with a split shot placed 18 inches in front of the fly so that I could cast the fly. I also tipped the fly with a centipede (which is probably the only reason I caught a fish :D).

The materials used are: 1 size 10 hook, 1 peacock feather, 1 wing feather from a buff orpington (chicken), of course you need thread

The body is peacock feather and the tail or what ever you want to call it is from the buff orpington. I figured most of you guys would have no idea what a Buff Orpington was so I added a picture of one.

Picture of the fly it is hard to get your computer camera to focus!

Picture of a Buff Orpington

whoa nelly.... fast learner!!

took me weeks to tie my shoes the first time!!

..... FYI I am in the process of legally changing my name to "Buff Orpington"

I have a new show this fall on CBC called "Buff Orpington: Master of Disguise" on Thursday at 8, 8:30 in Newfoundland

watch for it!!

:D

Is ordinary thread used to tie a wet fly?

Thanks. I watched every single one of Davie McPhail's fly tying videos on youtube over and over again, so I kinda knew how to do the steps. What are you doing out in Newfoundland??

No wonder they told me that they just had someone submit a name change request for the identical name, and that I have to wait 24 hours before I can submit for the same name.

If I ever need an alias name, it's going to be Buff Orpington. It's even better than Art Vandelay, H.E. Pennypacker, and Dr. Van Nostrand.

Must have been a lot of fun to get that one FishingNoob, well done.

I was catching a lot of bass the other week on a bare hook, found a little pocket where they were hitting anything. Prior to that I had only had 1 largemouth off a bare hook, now I've added about 6 smallies to the bass bare hook tally. Not to discount the value of using a fly!

Lol, I know Mr. Van Nostrand... Buff is actually the colouring of the chicken, you could have a partridge orpington or a black orpington...

That's amazing! I got a carp on a bare gold hook!
