Hi, I am a new member and need some information in this area for crappie fishing.

thanks in advance!

I believe you accidentally posted a link to a map in another thread that contained your home address with directions to victoria harbour. I deleted it.

Back on topic... I do know that Honey Harbour and Victoria Harbour used to be really hot in the spring for big slabs, but I am unsure of how the fall fishing is there. For panfish action closer to home, why not hit the kawarthas? They are being caught all over the place.

Hi Frozenfire,

Thanks very much for your help! It was my mistake to post the map.
We tried the Victoria Harbour few days ago in the evening and got nothing. I think I should try next spring to get some slab.

Thanks again for your help!
Also, I tried to go to Georgian Bay message board but it would not allow me to read it. can you tell me why

Years ago we used to go to Crooked Bay in the spring after spawning Crappie. But I stoped going for years, then afew years ago we trying it again, but the beavers had A dam so the crappies could not get into the side bay.

Is it any wonder why there's no crappies? Only 5 posts and over 2 thousand views. I'd think that maybe 20 views are other members, it's that 2420 who are people just looking for info on where to go.

Hey I caught big crappies on Mussleman Lake. Got my limit in 1 hour.

Perfect example of a member's only viewable topic.

crooked bay--awesome i camp on mcrae lake all the time great times---but THERE ARE NO FISH IN THAT REGION.

so why are crappies such a sought after fish? is it because they taste real good? cause I caught crappie years ago but I don't remember there being any real thrill to the fight

The meat is suppose to be very delicate and delicious. They are easy to catch in the spring when they come close to shore to spawn, and on ultra light they will put up a fight like sunfish/bluegill. But crappies get bigger then sunfish/bluegills, almost double the size. If you're using 8 or 10 lb line then no the fight won't be that great. Personally I love eating pumpkinseed, they taste better and fight just the same. I had a friend take me to a fast flowing river years ago, I don't know where it was, we were pulling PS one after the other and they were strong to fight the current. Try finding a fast flowing river with PS on UL, lots of fun.

I've never eaten a PS but bluegills are really good and they're very strong fighters.....I'll have to try a PS next spring.

I think PS are sweeter meat then BG. Get yourself a 5'6" UL with 2-4 lb line and set the drag light. Loads of fun. Even if not on a 5'6", on my 7' UL they are fun. Same gear jigs or worms on a longer hook makes it easy to remove and they don't usually swallow the whole hook.

Good luck.

In my opinion. If I can have one, I was a newbie before an I consider myself a member after two years now, we know that there is creepers lurking about this forum. Could we put a stop to this by making ppl join before seeing posts????? It would solve a lot of problems.
Oh an about the crappie, how big do they grow?? An why do they call them crappie? Lol
