I currently use one of those battery powered hook sharpeners and was wondering what you guys thought of using that in comparison to a standard file?

One thing I dont do near enough..when I do I use the file ....but wouldnt mind going automated..how well does it work?

It seems to work fine for me and the batteries last for years. The comments I have heard is that using a file is a much better way of doing it with a sharper hook and I'm trying to find out whether this is so.

i use the hook sharpener but not the way it supose to be used,
i use rapala sharpener where you have to put the hook through this hole to get it sharper but sometimes it makes it worse, i slipped plastick cover off and use the small drimmel same way i would use file.
never used berkley, any input on that ?

I have the berkley and it seems to work fine and it is the same idea of putting the tip of the hook in the hole. Removing the cover actually sounds like a better idea since you can see exactly where you are sharpening, but if your not careful you can easily ruin the hook also.

i have the simple file as well... don't use it nearly enough as i should though... probably accounts for all the lost fish haha.

Bigfisherman I think you have the right Idea, a piece of 220 should do the trick and it cost pennies!

I just use sandpaper;)

What kind of sandpaper do you use? It would have to be very fine to do a good job.

Don't know what grade I use but its fine, I just starting using it recently after putting a few tube jigs back in the tube package they started to rust, so I just grabed some sand paper that was lying on top of my toolbox, and I'm like wow I can sharpen hooks with this stuff too

I think a proper file would be easier to work with.
