I've been contemplating and researching how to hook up a canoe to car there aren't any tutorials on the net that provide this information. Anyone have any ideal?

You can use ropes or rachet belts at cdn tire (one back, one front, one middle). You can hook up at 16 feet to a small size vehicle like a civic/corolla.

You can buy a canoe kit at Cdn Tire for about 30$ (boat section), it comes with 4 foam blocks, the ropes and the hooks, works great,

The best way is to use roof racks, so you don't scratch your car roof and you tie it off at both ends of the canoe and tieing it off on the four corners of your car so it doesn't slide around.

those folding boats would be nice to have for ppl like my self with no place to put an actually boat. i wonder how they work on like a weekly basis and how reliable they are over a few years time.

This kit is also available at le Baron's.

Yeah, I'd say the ones at le baron are much better . I think they are cheaper too. I have them

I only use the foams from the kit, with a ratchet/cam straps. 1-2 ratchet ones for the middle, depending on distance. Cam Buckle straps at each end connecting to a car by a "/" pattern. From what I have read ropes are recommended for the front and back for a more snug and secure fit. Best are the straps made for canoes. (see link below)

I tried a roof rack, they give you more clearance so you have a better view. I prefer the foams because they act like "shocks" when you accelerate and stop. I like the feel better.

The best canoe cartopping resource I found: http://www.redrockstore.com/canoetie/index.htm
