Hey,

I just bought a rapala husky jerk. It says that it will "swim" around 3 to 4 feet deep and will suspend there. However I am unable to get it to dive to 3 or 4 feet deep. Hell, I cannot even get to dive! Please any tips or advice. Thanks.

It should dive easily. Keep your rod tip down and reel in quickly.

Most people will take up line, then jerk/pause, retrieve jerk/pause.

These are great baits.

Many people will also troll them around shallow weed edges, or on bottom bounce or 3-way rigs to get them deep.

What are you using for line??? The thinner the diameter, the better the bait will dive. Mono and Fluoro will also get the bait to dive deeper then braid (braid floats). Fluoro sinks like a rock, mono is in between

Truthfully, I bought my rod 3 years ago when my uncle invited me to go fishing. I sat in the furnace room until I joined these forums. I do not know what I have spooled as the man at Bass Pro Shops did it all for me :). Thanks for the replys!

Is the line smooth? Does it stretch when you pull it hard with both hands???

I say there are many ways to work these baits but I find you will get the best action with a 10 to 12 lb braided line and a flourocarbon leader about 3 ft or so...I have many caught fish casting with a stop and go ,jerk and pause..just reeling straight in fast and have caught fish trolling with them but I will say these arent the hardiest of lures and have had many of them break or split at the back end of the bait where the hooks come out trolling and catching bigger fish..They seem to hit them so hard trolling they split the backs on them..but with big fish it's always worth it a broke lure and landed fish its always better then a broken line, broken heart or ego..so set the drags loose so the fish can take some line..I have found the black/ silver, gold and hot steel to be the best colours for me and where I fish with them..fish them almost anyway will produce fish with them as long is your in the right place at the right time..this is really the key to fishing..Gl hope this helps fish on

The line is smooth. When I put it in the water it floats, but when I push it down to the bottom is stays there. It stretches a little but not a lot. By the way I am testing this line in an old fish tank.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have been swamped with work! :(

Here's one way:

If it's floating too fast you can find lead tape at a golf store and add a bit. Or if you don't want to do that you can pinch some split shot on the hooks... but this might affect the action.

Thanks MichealAngelo. It was actualy Shaun Rickard's video of fishing for pike on the island with the husky jerk that convinced me to buy it. I appreciate it.
