I know this may seem like a very stupid question but i really am wondering, can you ice fish in rivers such as the credit for carp in the winter? Or maybe drop a pink worm or spawn sac through the ice and get steelys?

not all river sections freeze in winter and if they do, the ice can be a foot in one spot and and an inch two steps later. be very very careful if you do decide to step on any river. oh and you will destroy your auger blades due to sand in the ice.

Ice fishing rivers can by very danger if you are not VERY VERY carefull, but yes I have seen fishing shows where there are useing Spawn sacks for Browns and Rainbows, I believe it was Infishermens Hardwater show, they where fishing a Lake Ontario Tributory River, for Browns and rainbows.

Friends of mine fish Moon River in the Winter for Walleye and Pike, but as efka said Ice can change thinkness VERY fast

I fish a creek Mouth on a lake with flowing water for Perch in the Spring.

and On Muskoka Lake in the Brandy Lake Creek mouth we fish Walleye and Trout in the Late winter

Totally not recommended. You don't want someone else fish you out of the icy cold water (that is if you survived).

I do not want to get anyone killed, so take this with a grain of salt and use common sense. but if I was going to ice-fish a river I would follow these steps to cheak the ice thickness

1 get someone to come with you for safty reasons

2 get 50 to 80 feet of Good 1/4 or thicker rope.

3 tie off to a large tree or other object and to your waist

4 every five feet on teh ice cheak the ice with a Spud (ice chistle) untill you think you are out far enough, then cheak an other 30 feet.

If you do fall throw you will be able to pull yourself back out of the water with the rope ( or at least teh cops will be able to find your body easyer

Hahaha If anyone goes through this kind of trouble for a carp then one must fish the carp out of a Chinese supermaket

Guess its not too good of an idea then =P looks like i'll be sticking to ice fishing on lakes and catching carp when it gets warmer

Whats the difference from Ice fishing a River with Current or Ice fishing Between to Islands with current on a Lake??

IF the river has Good Ice fish it.

I was fishing On Blackstone Lake here By Parry Sound, I was in 18 feet of water and the Current was Flowing under the Ice, my 1/4 OZ jig was 4 feet off to the side and I was 40 Yards out from the Saddle betrween the 2 Islands.

Its all About Safe Ice.
