I know this is a stupid obvious question but with what conditions does ice out happen ( temperature, wind, melting time, etc). I don't live super close to a lake or river so Ive been guessing by the puddles
:<{. Has the ice melted for Stillwater areas, or was spring cancelled? Help is appreciated.

ice out won't be til the end of april at the earliest, lakes had anywhere from 30-40" on them, ice out depends on long periods of warmer temps and warmer over night temps, its no good for it to melt during the day and then refreeze over night. wind and current in the system also play a role. northern lakes may not see ice out til june this year

Some rivers are ice out now....at least major parts of them...they were pretty much locked solid on Friday and then on Monday...*poof*

End of April? Not soon enough. Would the grand river from Brantford to york have areas wheretheres no ice? Any spots within an hour from brantford frendily enough for the family when its not super cold. Also how would I catch fish with that cold temperture from shore. Thanks for help, cant wait to get fishing again.

ice has been out on almost all major rivers for over 2 weeks. Just have to get out and find it. Cant wait for this weekend, 3rd in a row for catching fresh steel !

I guess catching pike in lakes is a no for a while now :> {. Whats doing good this time of year in major rivers, how do I fish for them, any spots good enough for the family eithin an hour from brantford?

We saw over 24" inches of ice on Cook's Bay the other evening! We need some warm temps., Wind and rain to speed things up!

Ya the grand takes a bit of getting used to when your new to it. The key is to spend a lot of time on it and just exploring it and finding where the good holes holding fish are. If you spend a lot of time on it, it definently pays off
