Just wondering if someone would share how thick the ice is on Lake caviar or any lakes in that area? We are supposed to head up to Canada in mid/late May for open water fishing. I have heard rumors that the ice could be as thick at 40-43 inches thick. Any news (even if bad) would be appreciated.

oh ya its really thick up there, gas augers need 2' extensions right now you will be fine for mid/late may though.
i think youre definately right on this one! with ice conditions like this i think there wontbe open water til may long weekend!

Yeah ice out is not till may up there usually. Fishing can be tough when ice first comes out they are super picky. Id try to aim later in may.

Last spring we went up in the third week in May. Ice had just dropped early the same week. We cought lots of lakers but had to hit the northerns on top of the head. Just beautiful up there either way. That much ice just makes me nervous. thanks for the responses.

Just seeing if anyone has an update on the ice in Lake Caviar or Dogpaw? We are supposed to come up there at the end of next week. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!
