ok so here is what im up against the cork handle has swelled against the sliding rings on my clarus making it impossible to get my reel off without grinding the rings or so i'm thinking. anyone got any ideas?

Yikes, is it possible to sand down the cork above the top ring and below the lower ring? Try aiming a hair dryer at the handle set it on low heat and leave it for a few hours. Let me search some solutions. I'll get back to you.

I'm no help here, but if you do find out a way other than cutting the rings, let me know. My cork was starting to swell on my other rod but it was manageable. Then the rod snapped in half. Mission aborted.

If you can't find any means to fix it can always cut off the cork handle and replace it. Its really simple to do. Id definatly try the blow dryer then try sanding the cork first which should do the trick. If it works give the whole handle a light sand after. It will look new again.

Good idea CC

I'm watching Mythbusters right now. GBD if you can't get that much silica gel then use plain ol powdered cinnamon. It's hydrophilic and will absorb the moisture just like the silica gel. Try to use saran wrap and pour a couple of inches all around the handle then saran wrap it so the cinnamon absorbs only the moisture on the rod. Your rod may end up being the sweetest rod on the river....lol.

Try the non-destructive first and if they all fail then you may have to take to a repair shop to get it re-corked. But I'll keep lookin for you.

Good luck.

EDIT: not hydrophilic, it's hydroscopic (absorbs surounding moisture). My apologies. I should have know better then to be so careless. Wrap it and leave it, just not sure how long. It will take some time like a few days, I think.

Rice works wonders for removing moisture. Try dunking the whole handle in a cheap bag of rice.

I have a clarus too. Maybe try blow drying it to get it dry. If that doesn't work then maybe try sanding it as grubman said.
