Remember to back off your drag after each fishing session as leaving it under pressure will result in the washers buckling a little.

I checked couple of my reel. Metal washer were somewhat warp causing bad drag, so I sand the metal washer just like the fellow suggested to help improve my drag. I also change some of the washer to Leather material found on one of my old broken wallet.

My Shimano Symetre has swede washer material, very smooth drag system.

If one is only fighting a bass, no drag is needed in most cases. But fighting a steelhead or carp or Salmon, your reel will be tested especially if you want to cut short the fight to ensure mortality rate.

I notice many novice angler fight their fish with drag set way too lose for fear of losing their catch, once the fish travels for some distance, your chance of losing the fish increase even more. Even if one landed the fish, the fish will be way exhausted or injured internally while travelling on shallow river system.
