As most of you know, the salmon are currently entering all the major Lake Ontario tributary systems. What some of you may not know however, is that Steelhead and Brown Trout are following the salmon into these same rivers. What this means is that the rivers will provide good fishing opportunities for Steelhead for the next 8 months, right through until the end of May 2011. The first few fall-run steelhead are already being caught in the river systems as I type this.

Now, the fact of the matter is that most of the die hard Steelhead fishermen are extremely tight-lipped about their preferred rivers, and I totally understand their unwillingness to share info, especially over the internet... but OFF is about sharing info, so what I would like to know, is the following:

Are there any of you steelhead fishermen out there that would be willing to share info and contribute to a Steelhead river update section?

The new section would have regular updates for all the major tributaries and ideally would provide info on important factors such as water clarity, water temperatures , ice/open sections, techniques, tactics - and of course steelhead fishing reports.

The section would be pretty useless if nobody were to contribute, so if you are interested in taking part and even if you're not, I would like to hear what you have to say.

*edit to add: This would be a new section in the coming new OFF board and would be open to all members.

Absolutely, I can give updates on the credit river 3-4 times a week! Starting tomorrow!

Openfire your the best this is the best thread so far I would like to try steelhead fishing I havent tried it before and I wish I catch one this year

I would most definitely be interested.... although I should caution that I am also new to Steelhead/trout fishing. However, I will be out fishing with regularity this season in the Peel/Halton region (at least once a week) and would be happy to share reports, spots and what's working or not working.

IMO those who care enough/contribute to the board would stay up to date in the currently active topics.

i like this idea...
hey if you like salmon and steelhead you should checkout the magazine with the same name.

Only if it were alot more exclusive than simply signing up to get access.
Otherwise it's even more damaging than the salmon reports.

Yeah, maybe having access to 1 or 2 of the other private boards grants you access to this one or something.

This is my first year fishing the Credit River. So far, I had hooked 4 salmon but landed none. Great fights though. I am still learning the Credit River, since I live 5 minutes away from Erindale Park, I have been going there to try my luck on steelheads. I prefer to use fly fishing to catch some steelhead in either the Credit river or Bronte Creek. I am new to the sport, just started this year and I am hooked. Any advice???

Well, the new OFF salmon/steelhead rivers section is now a reality. Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll.
