Or do some people have more fishing equipment then they actually fish?

I get the whole collecting idea, but I'm talking about the one's that seem to be consistantly buying gear and selling it (These guys are not custom rod builders or anything like that.).

Collecting, yeah like I said I get it. Collectors item or whatever reason, I get it.

But too often I see people (on other boards) that seem to be selling rods and reels every other week. Heck I met up with one who consistantly sells equipment. He has more equipment but doesn't know what to do with it. Hardly fish's. When he does he doesn't have much luck in catching. I don't get it.

I have extra equipment but I'm not the type to sell my stuff. I purchased everything I have to use or back up or extra gear for my friends to use.

Is it the cool thing to do or something?

Don't even know where I'm going with this. Just don't get it. Wouldn't you rather spend the time on the water FISHING instead of buying gear you won't be using on the water only to sell a few weeks later?

What I try to do is buy a new piece of equipment that is slightly different or has some advantage/disadvantage over a piece of equipment I already have. I feel that this approach makes me a more versatile fisherman.

For example, I have an 11'6" rod that I'm using for steelhead. Instead of buying another 11'6", my next rod will be a 13'6", the next reel will be a float reel instead of a spinning reel, then after that I'll get a fly rod and so on. Same goes for my bass gear, etc...

Besides, I have a hard time justifying my purchases to my better half when I'm replacing a rod or reel with the same type of rod or reel. At least with my approach I can tell her that I need this new gear since I'm able to point to the obvious differences

My tackle box is getting too heavy to hull around, I've accumulated so much that I "try" and only buy stuff when I catch a good sale. Every spring I do buy new line to respool. As for rods and reels, I keep one each for each type of fishing ranging from UL to XH. Now for gadgets, lol, GPS, line counters, scales, rod holders/portable rod holders, etc....what can I say, I'm a horder.

Don't get me wrong.

I buy leaders, weights, hooks just like anyone else. I pin mostly so I don't need much really besides weights/leaders/floats/flies usually....

Sorry it's more of a pinning thing. I just see a lot of guys that seem to have a new custom rod or reel every other week only to post on the board to sell the same week.

Some just make it seem like the equipment is more important then catching fish...

I guess it's just a disease...some has it worst then others
