Simple question...

Is it ok in your mind to keep and eat a couple salmon every year and release the majority...?

I just got flamed HEAVY on another site ( members and admin) for eating a fish that I pay my license fee for. Since when did being an outdoors man become wrong? Are we not supposed to enjoy the spoils and stories of the day and share our bounty with family, friends, and neighbours?

 The internet is full of opinions. Whether you want to eat salmon and keep fish ( within your legal right ) is up to you. I myself wouldn't eat fish from Lake Ontario however I know many people who do - generally speaking Lake O isn't as bad as some other places around the world in terms of pollution and contanmination. The bioaccumulation of toxins/nasties within the fat reserves of bigger fish is a danger to us so eating smaller fish is better than older, bigger fish. But what today isn't bad for us? The water they live in is almost the same in which we shower in, cook in, etc.

When I do keep fish I prefer to keep fish from more pristine waters.

It is your right to keep fish. I have had an earful a few times taking fresh trout out of the river- but it's your right to take fish out (within the regulations).

I keep my fish and eat them nothing wrong with it why give the money to the grocery store when you can catch your own

I don't think that would be solely my diet but I have in the past... And the third nipple is just a small side effect plus women dig it hah

id eat it, just not make a habit out of it, maybe 1 salmon if its fresh, but a steelie a month should be like the limit

sure it is, with the salmon i release the big ones, and will eat the smaller 10-15lbers out of the lake, small mouth bass from out of lake huron in the bruce are very very tasty. when i was big into pickeral (walleye) fishing we used a ton of those.

to the people giving you crap, unless you're keeping par, ignore em and post up a picture of your catch on the bbq

we only go around once, don;t take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.

Nick...eff them! If you are within your legal right/limit....ignore them and post here instead! LOL! We all enjoy a good fish feed and to hell with those that only eat salad!

pickerel.... chicken of the lake :)

Keep in mind i've only had two in my life LOL but they were darn tasty.

Thank my friend moose for that lovely battered fish and chips. Best meal of my life.

If within the law and regulations of course its ok. I never look down at anyone who keeps a fish for the table. With the large salmon runs here in AK I make sole trips for them just to fill the freezer. When I have my share I release and fish for other species that I C&R like trout.

I don't eat salmon or steelhead, I think they taste like crap. My mother asks me for a few once or twice a year, so I will keep perhaps 3 or 4 steelhead a year at most and freeze them until we go to visit mom. I have no problem with it. There are too many nancies out there now with no idea where their food comes from. Further, 20 years ago, back in the days of 5 fish limits, you would be awestruck at how many fish where we killed in a single day , and still the fish survived. Now with a 2 fish limit, and a lot more guys releasing fish, I'd say things look pretty good. So if you enjoy the odd fish, then have at it!

It's personal choice. I wouldn't eat anything out of Lake Ontario, but friends of mine do every year and they're fine.

If it's a Huron or Georigan Bay fish, I may keep one for the table.

Don't worry about what a few skunked hosers behind a keyboard think about keeping a fish or two. You pay, play by the rules, you can take home... but only under the condition that you and your household is going to enjoy every last morsel!
