Went down with my family to Island Lake Conservation on Sunday and it was INSANE in a ton of reasons. I mean there are a ton of spots to fish from shore, and its always fun to go out with family and see everyone have fun fishing and stuff like that, a really clean place plus you can book a boat rental which we did for the day.

The amount of people within the park is controlled and its not too too bad but the fishing pressure due to every single person fishing is crazy! I'm not saying that people shouldn't fish at all!! But I'm saying that its crazy how many people are fishing! I really think because of this so many people have a hard time fishing. I mean the minimal amount of people I saw were maybe 100 fishing and I only saw 1 guy pull in a fish.

Me and my pops went out for most of the day, early morning and afternoon looking for pike. When nothing came about in the morning and I couldn't nap, even after waking up so early, I decided to go out and hopefully get some luck and blood flowing by catching a few blue gill and get some confidence my confidence up. Decided to fish from shore and saw 10-15 blue gill right at the tip of my toes, so I backed up a bit, threw a nice juicy worm... then..... yeh.... nothing lol. Was insane, I've never seen bluegill turn down a worm in my life lol.

I mean the place is a great place to go with the family and spend the day, but if it comes to pike fishing, or anything really, I found it to be quite hard. Hopefully anyone has better chances than I did! I still had fun as for me, fishing isn't about catching fish too much.... but it was burning my toes a bit :p

I have alot of success from the shores. More so than being in a boat, I chaulk that up to people in my boat not being able to sit still and constantly dropping things.

Island like anytime after end of June is so over grown with weeds its hard to fish but even harder to get those stupid troll motors throught the water....

Never caught any impressive pike or bass in there just small stuff, largest thing I caught was a 3lbs crappy. I am going to be taking my son there soon as he is dying to go fishing.

That reservoir used to have a ton of hammer-handles, but the numbers seemed to have decreased over the years. The number of bass seemed to have improved though, which I would guess is likely the result of their catch and release policy for bass. Lots of good times there...

agree that the fishing is definitely down. been twice over the past 3 years and caught nothing. that's a total of 10 hours on boat and no bass or pike. and the first time it was 4 of us on the rented boat but not a single fish (targeting bass and pike).

but what convinced me to go was the people i'd bump into fishing somewhere else who said, "go to island lake, lots of bass and pike. i used to go there in the past". so i think it's dwindled down from the past. i too only saw one guy pull up a fish. it was a 3.75lb largie though. and i have seen maybe a couple of 2 pounders swim by but couldn't convince them to bite and they took off.

I live in the area and the lake has its good and bad days but a 2 man boat (me and a buddy) had a 17 pike day last year and have had multiple 5+ days. THere are still a bunch of snot rockets in there ;)

When I owned the tackle shop in Orangeville the guys would give me lots of reports, both good and bad.. I hate to say it but the local boys always did best, once you find the spots you'll do better to.. I saw lots of big bass pictures from that lake and a few pike over 10lbs to... Maybe check with Dan or Bob at my old tackle shop for advise on fishing the lake, they should have maps and may be able to mark down a few spots and even tell you what the hot baits are... Good Luck
