Hey fellas. So I'm looking into getting into float fishing. The local shop has a wide selection of islanders and a few t4s. Both are priced the same. Both feel smooth and built extemely well. Spin flawlessly without making any noise or vibration.

So I ask for your experienced opinions on whats the better reel? I know we are gonna get different opions across the board here but I'm starting from the bottom and would like a little input before shelling out the cash for a top notch pin.

Personal preference really... I loved my T5 which is functionally the same as a t4 with a little less weight due to porting. I have fished islanders in the past and they do run very well and for a long time. However I find they are noisy and there is a lot of oscillation feel in the hands (Which im not a fan of).

I just bought a T-4. Looks like a great reel for the money. I chose it over the Islander due to the slightly larger diameter. Otherwise, can't go wrong with either.

If only expensive fishing were like cars. Take em for a test spin and take your pick.
I may go with the islander solely based on the colour choice and the fact it looks like a traditional fly reel just upsized.

Thanks for the input folks although most of you had/hinted toward the raven t4/t5 lol

A little late to the party but! Another reel worth considering is the Rapala Shift (on clearance at Sail for $329.99) Comes with Abec 7s, 5.25" diameter and it feels nice in the hands (at least for me!)

I got a good deal on a friend's used kingpin after all.

Hooked into a big male salmon the other day (first time salmon fishing) and couldn't believe how hard those things pull! Fought it for a few minutes but ended up losing it but now that just gets me even more pumped for steelhead on the pin.
Bring on the chrome!
