july 11 2012 there is a City of Toronto Council vote on Fishing access and anglers rights.

instead of arguing about killing carp why not put some of that effort into filling out the petition to protect your fishing rights.

the killing carp and bowfishing posts only serve the anti fishing activists with material to ban fishing in the GTA.
if they are able to ban fishing in the GTA bhow easy it will be to ban fishing along Wilmont creek because of the garbage left by anglers.

by not getting involved your leaving yourselves unprotected.

Well I had sent a open letter (well open email) last week to the Mayor and all the Councillors, got some automated replies back but finally got a human written one, from one of Paula's assistants.

Dear Mayor Rob Ford, and Toronto City Councillors,

I am writing with regards to the agenda of "Gone Fishing", EX21.33,
which will be discussed July 11th.

I hope that the vote this time can be just as unanimous as it was the
previous time in the executive committee. Fishing is a great pass time
that is shared by approximately 1,116,163 Ontario residents, and a
additional 344,797 non-residents who come to Ontario each and every
year to fish our waters including Toronto's harbour areas. All these
fishermen, totalling just under 1.5 million, spent in 2010 a total of
$912,785,206 on fishing equipment, food and lodging, guide services,
transportation and licenses in Ontario alone. A total of 2.5 billion
dollars was spent in 2010 on fishing throughout Canada.

A active promotion of both shore and boat fishing here in Toronto
could be a very valid means of promoting tourism, and with the kind of
money that fishermen spend on fishing, it could be a large boost to
our local economy. There are many good avenues of appoarching this for
all parties involved that can be beneficial to the city.

One example that might work, as a suggestion, is a detailed map
similar to the Toronto Cycling Map, not only with the publicly
accessible shore line, parks with river systems that support fish, and
methods to get around the city using the TTC. The Ministry of Natural
Resources has a website that supports urban fishing in and around
Toronto which could be a good basis of information (

). As with the Toronto Cycling map, a listing of local Toronto fishing
stores, hotels, and boat operators for fishing charters, could also be
included.

Yes July 11th is the Council Vote as far as I understand it, as it passed the Executive committee already.

Nice to see a common ground and agreement for all us fishermen (and residents of the GTA).

I sent my letters to every one on toronto council.



I truly believe there are (3) main aspects to win them over:


1) VOTES ( I didnt "Theaten them' LOL .. or come across nasty, but definately laid out that if on the RECORDED VOTE they didnt approve - I would never support them ever again)

2) ECONOMICS ( Reminded them that allowing access does not COST MONEY but GENERATES it!)

3) THEIR HEART STRINGS (Enjoyed by so many, Kids, Visitors... the history & heritage, the Health & Wellness)


They better make the right choice.

Seriously, if the motion goes to banning fishing locations - I will HAVE TO MOVE and find another City! I could not live in Toronto without these opportunities.

There really is NO LEGITAMATE REASON for the politicians to take this away.

Unfortunately, Sound logic ... does not always come about.

I've never fish in Toronto Harbour but if the results are against then looks like I'll never get the chance even tho I was born in Toronto. Does anyone know the city council's result?
