Had these jumbos take me by surprise last night while fishing Lake Ontario.

There was a discussion on the forum a while back regarding night fishing for perch. Some guys were saying the perch bite stops at night, I was saying that it seems to start at night.

This was another case of the perch bite only beginning at dark.

Funny how perch are excellent fighters, yet their larger cousin the walleye feels like dead weight.

I thought these were bass last night, shame they're from Lake Ontario, I would have liked to have kept some!

Check out the size of the minnows they were taking beside the fish:

Beautiful Pan Friers!

I think Perch like minnows more than any fish in all our lakes!

They just seem to love to smash em.

Half the time (if the perch are there of course) .... you dont even have the minnow in the water, and BAM!

Nice fatties!

Good lordy please tell me you ate those guys!

Lake Ontario, so I opted not to. Perch can live for a long time, at that size they're probably full of toxins. I've got the immune system of a 95 year old, otherwise I probably would have ate it regardless.

nice fish bro were you fishing out in a boat or from shore i would love to catch some

I was shore fishing. You would need a boat to get them during the day in July, they're probably fairly deep during the day. Once it gets dark they seem to move in within catching distance from piers. I would recommend using minnows, with worms you would probably catch a lot of catfish.
