A buddy of mine at the last minute called me out for salmon fishing out east, I assumed one of the tribs. So I grabbed my river fishing gear and headed out expecting to go fishing with him alone. When I arrived he shows up with his kids and wife. They were not equipped to fish rivers and his son, cute as a button, is only 4 and would end up water sking behind a 20lb salmon.....lol. So I told my bud we have to go to Rice Lake so the kids can atleast catch panfish and not get bored. I don't think a 4 year old is quite ready for Salmon fishing with a 3 foot bush rod........lol. Up to Rice we went. He killed lots of Gobies and had a great time doing it, one right after the other on worms. He and his sister were so excited and they had a great time. Eventually they caught acouple of small bluegills and rock bass.

Rice was a bit of a drive for the kids and there were not too many panfish at Gore's Landing pier. Does anyone know of any other panfish spots closer to Bowmanville or Newcastle?

You got that right My Friend! Even though it usually amounts to "Put A Worm On .... Take A Fish Off." Again and Again!

Ya not so bad we filled the seagull's belly with so many gobies they actually stopped coming for more.........lol. I always thought they had a bottomless belly......lol.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the kids want to eat their catch so must be from a clean lake, if that still exists. Anyone know if small ponds are free from farm run-off?
